Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
About a week ago I was watching a blu-ray in my PS3 and the film froze. At first I thought it was the disk and tried cleaning it. I put the disc back in and the movie played fine for a while, then froze up again in the same way.
I tried different blu-ray discs, and all have the same problem, they freeze up after about five minutes. I turned off my PS3, unplugged it, and left it overnight. It was working fine, played blu-rays fine, until yesterday. Well, Blu-rays started freezing again. I once more unplugged it overnight, but this time it didn't solve the problem.
The PS3 plays DVD's and PS2 games just fine, but won't play blu-rays for more than a few minutes (it still plays them consistently, just not for long). The weird part is that when the blu-ray freezes I can still quit playback or turn off the system. My PS3 is a 60gig unit from around launch, so the warranty's expired and I have no qualms about opening it if I need to. I figure it's the blu-ray diode, anyone else have any ideas?
1st DO NOT EXPOSE THE BLU-RAY FOR ANY REASON - You run the risk of blindness and radiation exposure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please advise what FirmWare Version you are currently running on. You can find this under;
Settings>System Settings>System Information.
Once I have this info I will provide you with the best fix if needed but It is probably down to out of date drivers. There have been a number of changes to the blurays drivers recently and if these havent been updated then this will most likely be your problem. To solve this all you need to do is take your system online and download the newest FirmWare update. - There are people who NEVER use the system online for different reasons. Since you brought the system BluRay has gone through 4 upgrades. Any BluRays you buy now wll likely be incompatible for playback with the drivers you have on your system.
If you need any further advice on getting online with thew PS3 please post it as a new issue and I will help you - but the PS3 talks you through it to be honest
