RCA TV, model number 32V550T. No picture but sound is fine.
I have an RCA TV, model number 32V550T. It turns on *sometimes*. If it does come on, it makes clicking noises, like it's trying to turn itself off. After a while ( this could be as much as two hours or as little as 5 minutes, the picture disappears but the sound stays on. This television is three years old.
Does anyone know why this TV comes on and then shuts itself off, or if it stays on, the picture keeps going out or doesn't come on at all?

sounds like the sceen is dead, if you are receiving nothing on screen, then it sounds like either a component and/or screen is gone... however, check the tv input to make sure it wasnt acidentally switched to an input channel with nothing selected... if that does not work, call local tv repair or mfg customer service tech. if under warranty, have repaired or replaced. without physically seeing tv, it is hard to diagnose issue outside of information given. could be simple board replacement or could be screen.. but check input first, if a dvd player plays, then it could be just component or input on wrong selection
This set needs a flyback transformer p/n 262342, and a horizontal output IC, location number on the board is q14401 and crosses to NTE2353. When you're in there too touch up any bad solder joints you can find. Fixed several of these with the same problem.
The Horizontal Output transistor needs to be changed as it is most likely shorted. The current transistor on this set is a 2SD3402 (no longer available) it's new replacement part number is the 2SC5902. Order 2 2SC5902 Horiz Output transistors.Replace the transistor by it self once and if all is ok then fine. If not replace it again and also the the Flyback HV transformer. The HOT transistor is probably shorted again and the transformer is causing it.

I am having the same problem with my RCA 32V550T. This has been the worst purchase I have ever made - it was an expensive TV at the time that I got it and it only worked for a few months. It may or may not come on. It may or may not have sound. It rarely works but If per chance it does come on it will work maybe from 15 mins to 2 hrs. depending on it's mood - yes I think it is possessed. It turns on and off at will. I keep it unplugged most of the time because I worry it may be a fire hazard. I have had it repaired but the problem persists. It's a useless but expensive heap of junk taking up space in my living room. I had a great RCA VCR that I bought many years ago but contemporary RCA products are not the quality they used to be - be smart and stay away from them.
