Acer 5601 AWLMi Battery and/or USB problems

Hi all,

Over the last week or so my laptop has gone from fully functioning to an irratic pain to use. There are a couple of issues, and I fear they are related:

1) Basically when I start up the computer the keyboard runs fine in BIOS but once windows starts to boot up the keyboard and mouse lock up completely if the battery is left in the laptop (whether it is plugged in or not, the battery seems to be the key here). Sometimes a USB keyboard/mouse will not work either. And on occasion the mouse and keyboard will work until the laptop realises it is just on the battery and then it all locks up as the power profile is enabled (regardless of how the profile is configured)!

2) The battery always reports 3% charge, but the time remaining seemsfairly representitive of what I can expect, I believe this is down to thePCB board in the battery itself.

3) The camera has stopped responding totally and I occasionally get USB device not recognised, guessing that may be a bad connection.

I cannot get hold of a spare battery for testing very easily (I can borrow it for a few hours every Thursday) and the laptop did not come with any discs but most of the drivers appear to be available online or possibly available through the image of the disc I burnt.

    Unfortunately the warranty ran out in December. I will try to see what problems (if any) using a compatible battery that is known to work in other machines might fix.

    when the battery is removed and i boot on AC power only, all works fine.

    When i plug in the battery, keyboard and mouse are not working at all, or very very slowly.

    Does anybody have similar problems, and does a new battery solve the problem ?

    Hi 5abr3,

    sounds like a board problem (a laptop contains more boards than only the motherboard) but from here it's impossible to figure out which one is affected indeed.

    Is there any warranty left for this laptop? If yes, please contact the hardware vendor's support division to get maintenance for your device. The problem you've reported isn't one which can be solved without technical help on-site, I'm afraid.

Most battery unfortunatly only have about 2/3 yrs life if one is lucky

i have 2 acer laptops one battery lasted about 2 and half yrs the other has gone on for about 6 yrs

but i finally had to repalce both

i got them from ebay a replacement from china took 3 weeks to arrive
but i knew that when i ordered and it was only around £22 where as they are normally twice that

the latest one i just bought for my acer aspire 5630 is a 9cell battery which last far longer than the
normall 6 cell battery and that was only around the £22 mark as well

I have an ACER aspire 5601 AWLMi and my wireless connection is really unstable (it cuts very often and i always have to click on repair connection to solve the problem ). Other computers around me don't...

Check the signal strength to the ACER, if it is weak then move the wireless router to a location away from brick and concrete walls and or move it to a higher location.

Acer 5601 Problem


First you have to resolve the problem in your battery because any devices may affected if the power supply is not enough or has no constant supply of power to the entire hardware system. So to avoid any further damage to any components of the unit you have to set the power supply to its standard rate by replacing the battery then the other will follow after the power supply is restored properly. Also the camera is too sensitive that is why if you repair it you have to be very careful not to include those tiny parts to be damage in order to ensure the functionality of the camera back to its original Operation after you repair the camera.

Shuts off unexpectedly

Hi there.
Because the machine is only one month old i would recommend that you take advantage of the manufacturers warranty and send it in for repair, it won't cost you anything to do this as this sounds like a serious hardware problem or failure which is not of your doing.
Telling you to open the laptop will only void your warranty so this is not recommended.
Your computer will only be away for a week or so and i know it could be a pain not having it there, but for peace of mind this is the correct procedure.

Acer aspire 5600 does not boot up

If you upgraded RAM to 4GB that is exactly what is going to happen. The ACER 5601 AWMLi does NOT support 4GB. Flashing the bios will NOT solve this problem.
