Question about Tappan TGF320 Gas Kitchen Range

Open Question

Tappan 30" gas range oven door will not close

Last week the door on our 30"' Tappan gas range (no frills) would not close the last inch or so, so the oven has not been used.

I found nothing obviously jammed, tried WD 40- no luck.

Have started removing LH (when facing stove) panel removal, but don't see anything much yet as to how to further disassemble.

Nothing seems fractured, etc.

What is the usual disassembly procedure further? Have not removed door itself as it seems that would just give me a separate door!

Tappan Gas Range and oven. Door won't close all the way. There is no apparent damage to the door or oven. The hinges at the bottom of the door seem to be operating properly. The door seems to be aligned properly.

I suspect the problem to be in the door itself. I am reluctant to disassemble the door without knowing what I am getting into.

SOURCE: Tappan range. Model #30-3991-00/01, Serial

The main control ERC has failed. The timer and all functions are controlled by one main control board. Here is a video that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/ovenerc.html

Oven door will not close all the way. 6" gap at the top. No problems until last use and now won't close. Any hints on how to proceed would be appreciated. Thank you!

Most oven doors are held in place by two hinges at the bottom. Usually these hinges are not attached but hook into the oven.

Sounds like you need to readjust one or both of the hinges.

Usually can be done by pulling up on the door and pushing the bottom of the door in.

Write back if you have more problems.

Oven will not turn on

Hi mcifaretto,

F3 code error indicates a bad oven temperature sensor (RTD). To fix this error, Check sensor harness and harness connection between oven sensor and oven control. Replace oven temperature sensor (RTD) if wiring is ok.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Oven takes up to 25 min. to preheat

I would suggest looking at how long before the bake burner ignites. If taking longer than 5 minutes before it ignites, then you are looking at a possible bad ignitor. The ignitors just don't last more than 5 yrs with regular use.
