Question about HP J3680 Officejet All In One Printer

6 Answers

Hi, Please help me. My 14 year old son undertook to set up my new fax machine this morning. In his haste he accidently palced the wrong ink cartridge in the right side cartridge holder. Then he persevered and forced the cartridge intended for the right side into the left cartridge holder. I am unable to get them out. Can anyone tell me what to do? Much appreciated, Markus

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Suggestion:

  • power on the printer;
  • soon as the carriage moves out of rest/lock position, unplug from the mains;
  • the carriage should have moved to an almost center position ;
  • insert a flat bladed screwdriver in between the far end of the ink cartridge and the casing/cartridge holder;
  • the screwdriver should not be inserted that deep, there are electrodes in that area (lower) that could get damaged;
  • gently twist the screwdriver;
  • the idea is to dislodged the top portion from the rear;
  • the cartridge installs-and removed from an angled/inclined position.
A friendly reminder, the possibility of further damage is always there, care and caution should be exercised.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

The cartridges are are very firmly got stuck internaasly in the socket just tap the cartridges slowly to make them loose.if you find id risky then do not try because if by chance the socket where the cartridges are installed breaks down.it will cost you near to $ 25 for only jusr replacement socket.taking it to the local repair center will not cost you more then $5 for removing this.as its just a job of 1 minute not more then that.but if you feel it will crack do not force.

Hey,

just follow the instructions pointed out on the user manual that came with the printer to first get the cartridges to come to the center so you can get them out, as they where forced in to the wrong slots, it will have to be 'forced' out from them aswell, hopefully this wont break the printer.

you may attempt to help the cartridges with a flat screwdriver.

ones they are out inspect them for any damage and insert them in to the right slots and see if it functions.

I have a Canon MultiPass C555 InkJet Printer for my fax machine in the church office. I don't know how old the machine is. Whenever I receive a fax I cannot read it. I even change the ink and I still...

These machines have an integrated printhead built into the printer. The only way to try to fix this issue is to run the cleaning function anywhere from 3-7 times. First, remove the ink cartridges and depress the sponge side onto a paper towel. If you see ink on the towel, proceed to the next step. If no ink is present, replace the ink cartridges. They can be found for very cheap on this model. Next step, depends on whether or not the machine is hooked up to a computer or is just a stand alone fax machne. If it is not hooked up to a computer, go to the menu, scroll to maintainence and select clean cartridges. You will need to do this multiple times. Continue to do it if you see improvement, until you are satisfied with the print quality. You an also perform the cleaning from a computer. Locate the printer in the printer folder and right click on it. Select properties. At the bottom of that window, select preferences. Then select the maintainence tab, and select clean cartridges. Again, you will need to do this multiple times. Please advise if you need further help, or if this does not work and you would like info on current fax machines.

Mfc 5840cn problem

Machine Error 46 – Purged Ink Box Full MFC620CN/420CN/410CN/210C and FAX2440C

The machine counts all purge (cleaning) operations in order to prevent the internal ink absorber box from overflowing with purged ink. An “initial purge”, for example, advances the purge counter by 187 + 420 = 607. When the purge counter approaches 6400, an internal "Machine Error 46" is generated. Further purge operations are prohibited, and therefore the printer becomes unuseable.

When an internal Machine Error 46 is generated, the user will see an “Unable to Clean” external message and will be unable to use the printer. The “Unable to Clean” external message can relate to many different internal error codes however.

The user can establish the internal Machine Error Code as follows: pull the mains cable out of the machine (power off), hold down the Menu/Set key, re-insert the mains cable into the machine (power on). The internal Machine Error Code will be displayed.

If there is a Machine Error 46, it is necessary to dismantle the printer, replace the ink absorber box (or possibly break the ink absorber box open and clean its absorbent sponges under a tap), re-assemble the printer and reset the purge counter to zero.

Resetting purge counter MFC620CN/420CN/410CN/210C and FAX2440C

1) Enter machine maintenance mode (on MFC210C all four photo/copy/fax/scan lights flash in maintenance mode). Care is needed in maintenance mode, otherwise critical settings may be inadvertently corrupted.

FAX models with numerical keypads: Press the Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds. (if you fail to complete the correct key sequence within two seconds, press the Stop key to try again).

Other (non-FAX) models: Press the Menu/Set and Black Start keys. Next press the “up arrow” key four times to enter the maintenance mode).

2) Press the 8 then 0 keys in the initial stage of the maintenance mode to call up the machine's log information list (function code 80).

3) Press the Black Start key several times to scroll through the log information list to reach the purge counter. The purge counter is the 25th item in the list.

4) Press the 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in this order to reset the purge count to zero.

5) Press the Stop/Exit key to return to the initial stage of the maintenance mode.

6) Press the 9 key twice to return to the standby state.

Carry on printing !!

On my Canon MX310, the display says "Waiting for Report". Fax Memory is clear, but the In Use/Memory light stays on.

Try this step ... found it on Canon's website

Issue: ERROR LCD: WAITING FOR REPORT
Solution: Set [AUTO PRINT RX] to ON (MX300 / MX310)

AUTO PRINT RX When [AUTO PRINT RX] is set to [OFF], incoming received faxes will be temporarily stored to memory and transaction reports (TX, RX and Activity) remain in memory. The default setting is [ON], which means incoming received faxes and transaction reports will automatically print. The fax machine will not automatically print a received fax and will store it in memory in the following conditions.
  • Ink is low or has run out
  • The paper size and type is not set correctly
  • Paper has run out
  • The Output Tray is closed
To set AUTO PRINT to ON, please follow these steps.
  1. Press the <FAX> button to enter the Fax menu.

  2. Press the <Menu> button. [FAX SETTINGS] is displayed

  3. Press the left or right arrow button to select [RX SETTINGS] , then press <OK> two times.

  4. Press the left arrow to select [ON], then press <OK>.

    Note: When AUTO PRINT RX is set ON, a sub-menu will appear to PRINT WHEN NO INK.

  5. At sub-menu PRINT WHEN NO INK, decide if you'd like the machine to continue to print incoming received faxes if ink is low.

    CAUTION: When this option is set ON, the fax machine will not monitor the ink level of the ink cartridges. If ink is low or out, received faxes will print with streaks or blank. Furthermore, once the fax is printed, it will be deleted from memory.
    1. To print received faxes when ink is low or out, press the left or right arrow to select [ON] and then press <OK>.
    2. To store received faxes in memory when ink is low or out, press the left or right arrow to select [OFF] and then press <OK>.

  6. Press the <Stop/Reset> repeatedly to return to Fax standby mode.

Not Receiving Faxes

If it is a fresh ink and all carts have ink, you can unplug the machine and plug it back in while you hold the stop button for a few seconds after it powers up.That usually clears the error.

Hi,
Try cleaning the print heads with rubbing alcohol to remove any dry ink, also clean the rollers too.
If the unit has a reset button or option i suggest you try that.

Good luck.

I am still unable to receive faxes that are printed automatically when they arrive. they mst be going to memory and i cannot get them to print out of memory. can yo please help me. i paid for this service...

If you are getting a low ink message no you will not be able to fax until this is resolved. Once you replace the ink cart. then you can get to the steps where you can clear the fax memory until then the steps that we would give you will not work.

You can visit www.canon.com click on your printer model then on support and you can download the manual in this manual there will be step by step instructions on how to clear the memory on the fax. this can also be cleard once you print them keep that in mind. so first purchse ink then your going to print your faxes by hitting that button twice the reason why it will not work now is because your low on ink.

If you like this solution please hit accept.

Thanks

I hav installaed new cartridges but the is offline and i cant

I have a Printer problem - "Ink System Failure" - Ink System has failed. Unable to copy, receive faxes, or print. Refer to printer documentation. Error: 0xc18a001". This is what the glass on the left side says. I don't use faxes, so don't care of that. My Son installed an ink system, which of course is a lot cheaper to use, quite some time ago which has been working super. Yesterday the "Ink System Failure" sign came on and my Son was here this morning, but couldn't figure out what is wrong with the printer. I am in Heidelberg, Germany and buy my equipment in the AAFES PX. There is no HP technical service available to us Military people. The Germans won't work on American goods. Is there any hope for me? Thank you.
Phil Gatchell
P.S. I am the Adjutant/Finance Officer of an American Legion Post in Heidelberg and use my color printer extensively. So I am in a bind.

Clean unable 46

You need a new ink absorber box which can be purchased from a brother service partner near your home.

www.brother.com

If you have got the spare part (ink absorber box) you have to open the printer:

Do NOT clean the old one! It cant be cleaned: The felt wont take up ink anymore and will stain the machine from inside and the furniture beneath the printer.

After replacing the eeprom of the printer needs reset:

(dcp: use arrow-up and set key to choose the digits. e.g. arrow-up til 8 then set arrow up til 0 then set
mfc: use the fax-number keys.
Stop-button will always go back to maintenance, if you have done wrong)

press menu then start bk-copy then fourtimes arrow up quickly after another.

machine will switch to maintenance mode and light(s) will flash.

press 8 0

press start bk-copy until PURGE 64xx

press 2 7 8 3

Purgecount will be 0000

Press stop

press 9 9 to leave the maintenance mode.

After the mfc/dcp comes up again in normal state the error has disappeared
