PLEASE HELP I have a 2004 Envoy XUV as well with the rear tailgate not functioning or opening either way. The glass will roll down as well but not pop open?? I checked all the fuses and not one is burnt out? I think a wire fell off inside and I will have to take the back panel off from the inside to try and follow the wires from the switch to the solonoid. Anyone have a solution for this yet?

I also have a 2004 GMC XUV. My gate would go down but not swing open. In trying to fix it, the gate then refused to go to the flat position.I have removed the cover plate on the gate and found the one of the solenoids loose from its mounting. Resetting the computer by disconnecting both battery leads and holding them together for ten seconds worked to restore function to the gate going flat, but the swing still does not work. I believe it is a bad solenoid or motor for the bottem left latch pin.

I fixed both switches on my 2004 XUV. If you unscrew them from the back and take the switch itself apart you will probably find some corrosion on the one wire inside. I cleaned it up and added a drop of solder to make the connection. Both switches had the same problem and now both work fine.

I also have a latching problem with my 04 Envoy XUV and have replaced the left two latches several times. (The right one has never failed). The tailgate won't either latch closed or won't open one way or the other or both. I determine which latch is not catching and replace that one. Each time it fixes all latching problems for a few months but one or the other always fail again. I have been told GMC's latches are defectine and nothing can be done about it. So I just keep replacing latches. Just take off the plastic tailgate interior panel and unbolt the three bolts holding the latch. Unplug the electrical connection and replace the latch with the new one. Unfortunately, I'm getting real fast at doing it.

SOURCE: 2004 envoy xuv tailgate problems

I do not have the XUV model but I know that my Envoy has an electronic sounding latch lock when I close my tailgate. I would check the fuses and electrical connections. I hope that this helps.

I changed my battery on my truck 2004 gmc envoy xuv now my trunk won't open or unlock but the window does go down and up can anyone advise plz thanks?

It is possible that the battery change may have disrupted the electrical system of your GMC Envoy XUV and caused a problem with the trunk latch mechanism. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:
  1. Check the fuse: The trunk release mechanism may be controlled by a fuse. Check the fuse box and replace any blown fuses.
  2. Check the trunk release button: Make sure the trunk release button inside the vehicle is working properly. If it doesn't work, try resetting the power to the vehicle by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting it.
  3. Check the trunk lock mechanism: Inspect the trunk lock mechanism to see if there is any visible damage or debris that may be preventing it from unlocking.
  4. Check the trunk latch mechanism: Sometimes the trunk latch mechanism can become stuck or jammed. Try lubricating it with a penetrating oil to see if that helps.
  5. Try the key: If your GMC Envoy XUV has a keyed trunk release, try using the key to open the trunk.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic for further diagnostics and repairs.

How to fix my rear tailgate window

check the fuse/relay. if it is neither of these check the switch with a multimeter. If you can hear the motor trying to move the glass when you try the switch it may be the regulator needs attention. It may be the motor needs to be replaced.

check fuse and relay along with the switch first then the regulator and motor afterwards. Replacing the small electronics is obviously easier than having to open up the tailgate to check the mechanics of the winedow.

Tail gate on 2004 Envoy XUV

The tailgate assembly requires regular lubrication and adjustment in order to keep functioning properly. If it has stopped functioning, follow the manufacturer's recommendations for periodic lubrication and adjustment.

2004 GMC Envoy XUV tailgate won't open downward. Tailgate will swing open but will not open downward. Nothing happens when pressing in on pressure pad/switch...it is as if there's no power going to it.

Do you live in a dusty area? My sister lives in dusty New Mexico and had a malfunctioning XUV tailgate. My reasoning was that something must tell the tailgate not to drop down if the glass is up, and if it can't tell, then it will only open sideways.
So we removed the trim panel, and the tailgate was indeed full of dust. By reaching my arm in, I found two plastic optical sensors which tell the gate whether the glass is up or down; both were coated with dust. After cleaning these the tailgate was back to its normal operation. The two sensors are flat, round - about the size of a nickel or dime...I couldn't see them, just found them by guessing that they must be there. Hope this helps!

2004 Envoy Xuv tailgate does not open.

pull the plastic off of the tailgate and make sure the small wire looking controls are still hooked up. sometimes they will pop out after alot of use. other thing is make sure the rear actuator is actually working (it could be bad)

2004 envoy xuv tailgate problems, will not latch or open sideways.

the actuators have a white stem that sticks out of the bottom of them. if you push up on the ones on the driver side it will open the back hatch for you.
