I normally see this with a Vista System trying to access a wireless network setup with WEP encryption.

Things you can do to resolve:

  1. Change encryption to WPA (Vista likes WPA and it is more secure)
  2. Update router firmware

Need helpetting up wireless connection

WIRELESS ROUTER SECURITY
When you power up the wireless router and the LEDs are ON then the router appears to be OK and this also applies to the DSL or cable wireless modem. To check if the modem is configured to your ISP settings and the modem connects to the Internet, connect the modem with a LAN cable to your laptop and check if you can get into the Internet. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router's wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router. To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: - 1, Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA). The encryption key can be easily set up using a passphrase (it can be an alpha numeric phrase or words). 7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

Signing in to broadband

Instructions
    • 1 Open an Internet browser on a computer that is connected to the wireless router.
    • 2 Type your router's IP address into the address bar of the browser. Depending on what brand of router you own, there may be a different default IP address. If you don't know the default IP address for your router, you can usually find it included in the documentation that came with your router.

    • 3 Log in to your wireless router using the administrator username and password. If you did not change administrator account settings when you installed the router, this will be the default account. This information should also be included in the documentation that came with your router.
    • 4 Navigate to the "Wireless" section of your router's dashboard and look for the "Wireless Security" settings.
    • 5 Review the security settings on your router. If you are using a password, this will usually be a WEP setting.
    • 6 Type a new password into the "Passphrase" text box to generate new security keys.
    • 7 Write down "Key 1" and keep this information in a secure place. This will be the new security key that you will use to connect wireless computers and devices to your router.
    • 8 Save your new security settings on your router to complete the password change.

How to connect laptop (using internal wireless adapter) to a wireless network)

Make sure you have the correct Password exactly like it should be (case sensitive). If it is not correct, it will continue in the loop of trying to validate identity.

Also you can click Start/Control Panel/Network Connections then Right Click on the Wireless Connection and select Properties.

When the properties window opens click View Available Wireless Networks. Highlight your network by clicking on it then select Properties.

The Association tab will allow you to change the Network Authentication to WPA2-PSK if it is not set to that and if the adapter will accommodate it. And you can put in the Network Key or Password.

HP Pavilion Dv6910us Entertainment Notebook Pc will not connect to internet

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I have internet connection but my laptop will not connect

Check your connections. 1. Wired: directly connected to the modem (not the router) If this works, the router is the issue. 2. Wired directly to the router If this works then wireless is the problem 3. Wireless Check Key for accuracy, Upper and lower case matters. Check that your router does not have MAC address restrictions 4. Clear the cache on the laptop IE. Use the Options menu to clear this.

Laptop keeps disconecting from belkin54g dsl network (home)

Wireless connections are best when distances are short and there are no brick or thick walls interfering with the signal between the router and your laptop. Try the following test:
Start using the laptop from an open location that is close to the router. Monitor the signal strength as you walk away from the router. Go into other rooms, go upstairs, downstairs, etc, and you will most likely notice differences in signal strength depending on where you are, or how far you move. Of course, you will suffer frequent disconnections when the signal is at its weakest point, no matter what equipment you use, be it new or used.
Try locating the router in a way that your signal strength is strongest, without affecting the other computers. It's a trial and error thing.
One last thing you could do is to go to your wireless adaptor configuration settings and set the Roaming capability to agressive, and set the connectivity to distance, for higher performance.
Good luck!

Link to connect to wireless network does not work

Hi,

Make sure that the router is broadcasting your network (This is the SSID). If it is you should see the name of your network (make sure you change the name from the factory default). If not you will have to log onto your router (http://192.196.0.# number is specific to your brand of router. Should be in manual.).

When you log in under admin you can go to wireless tab and look for SSID broadcast. Make sure it is set to yes. If you have a power setting, make sure it is set to 100%

If you still cant connect you will have to run the network wizard that comes with your router again. Make sure to write your network key down (some routers are case sensitive so be sure to take that into account).

If that doesn't work, check the security levels, as it might be set to a higher level that does not accept new connections.

I hope this helps, if you have any other questions just let me know.

to access the routers setuppage go to a computers that is connected to your linksys router (wired) then launch IE on the address bar type 192.168.1.1(this is the routers ip) then it will ask you for username and password for the username dont type any thing for the password type admin.

when your on the setuppage click on wireless tab. while on the wireless page set the channel to 11.

after that click apply or save settings on the page.

then after that try to connect to your wireless network on your laptop.

for further help you can call linksys hot line 1800-3267114

Can not connect wirelessly to my router.

Connect your pc back on ethernet cable
and open your browser and make change on wireless security tab (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1)

under the wireless remove all security and see if that works
After if you get it connected without security then you can put back security on again
make sure the same key is on your wireless pc
