You have enabled NUMLOCK
Look for some text marked NUMLOCK in a colour similar to the fn key and hold fn then pres numlock.  SHould be fine after that.

Function key not working

ASUSTek Computer Inc., or simply Asus, has been a leading innovator in computer hardware technology for the last 20 years. Taking the same precision and care in its hardware manufacturing, Asus has been making quality laptops, desktops and servers for the last several years. With a selection of on-board functions in their laptop series, certain keys can malfunction during system updates and software changes. Use the function key (Fn) located at the bottom right of your keyboard in combination with any of the F keys located at the top of your keyboard. If none or only some of the combined command keys work together, then there is an issue with the ATK Drivers. An update of these drivers will eradicate the issue. Navigate your browser to the Asus support site, linked in the references section below. This website will provide the tools necessary for driver update. Select the appropriate products from the three drop-down menus at the top right of the support page. For the first box, select "notebook," the second box select the series notebook that you are using and for the third box, select the corresponding model. With all three selections, hit the search box located underneath these product selections. When the popup window appears, choose your corresponding operating system. Once chosen, hit search. A list of file types will appear with corresponding selections for driver updates. Click on the "+" box located next to the file type ATK. This will generate a list of all the appropriate driver types associated with this particular function. Locate the driver description "ATK Hotkey Utility" and click on "Global(DLM)". This will open another pop-up and your driver download will begin. Once the selected device driver has finished downloading, a prompt to launch the application will appear in the popup box of the download manager. Select "launch" to unpack the zip files using the Winrar software. Make note of the folder in which the unpacked driver setup is sent. Locate the Setup file that was just unpacked and double-click for activation. This will initiate driver setup of the driver that has just been downloaded and restore the function of the Fn key. Follow the instructions once setup has initialized. Once setup is complete, you will be asked to restart your system so that all changes and driver updates can take effect. Close all programs and perform this final step to complete driver setup. The function key on the Asus keyboard should now be restored to its intended use. Hope this helps.

The number 2 is showing up on your keyboard because you have the Num Lk (Number Lock) key on and you are probably hitting the FN key then the K key so the little number 2 that is on the K key appears as what is typed. for example: On my keyboard there is a Big Letter K key and also on that key is a small number 2 which is blue. In order for me to get the number 2 when I type I have to have the Num Lk key on and then I have to Press and Hold the blue FN function key on the lower left of my keyboard then hit the K key and the number 2 is what gets typed.

My asus x59gl screen won't switch on, I can hear

Try holding in the function key (very bottom left key labeled Fn) and pressing F7. If that doesn't turn the screen back on, hold it again and slowly press F8 a few times. That should turn the screen back on if it was accidentally set to a different monitor, which seems to happen randomly on laptops.
If you can see a very faint image when its held at just the right angle, then you probably burned out the back-light.
Keep in mind, if you bought it in the last year, it is still under manufacturer warranty.

How to activate the wireless option in Asus X59GL

Hi

If it has wireless capability

it may be FN+F2

so press the blue FN key bottom left of keyboard plus the F8 as in no 8 key at the top

some asus laptops have a slide or push wireless key but that is normally on or around the keyboard and it should have a little picture on or beside the key that looks like a little satellite

good luck

I just got my asus G73Jw, and my keyboard dosen't light up, none of my fn keys don't work, neither does my enter key

SOLUTION by Arun Sangal

1. As said by others above, if its just that you have turned the lights completly off.. then press "Fn" key + F4 key (keyboard light increase) button.

2. If the above doesn't do anything or-- if Fn key + any other F? key (like F11/F12) for sound decrease/increase don't do anything ... meaning your FN key driver is messed up, then dont worry, See Hannah Montana and relax.

After seeing it, go to your computer desktop, there you'll see, "e-driver" shortcut/icon. Click it and you'll see a new pop-up window. In this windows, ASUS various ACPI/etc drivers will "AUTOMATICALLY" download (provided you are connected to internet) and it's fast.

I did the same, and system automatically restarted/rebooted during the "e-driver" update process. Finally I restarted my system/laptop (G873JW) and "HOLY HYENAS".... my system is running like a pony ***. AWESOME, it worked for me and my problem got resolved.

NOTE:
1. In case you dont see "e-Driver" icon on your desktop, then usually the file is stored at "C:\eSupport\eDriver\InstAll.exe" on my laptiop. Try runing the above file from "Windows" command prompt or double clicking on this file by going to "C:\eSupport\eDriver" folder and double clicking on "InstAll.exe" file.

GIGA, you should be good to go with this FN problem on ASUS G73JW or any other series of laptop.

2. During the update process, if you see "ASUS live update" green color window comes up and starts downloading something, hang on, look at it if it's doing anything, if it does some download and hangs at the particular point (i.e. downloading not progressing), then, you can cancel it. BUT make sure the update pop-up window that came after you clicked / ran "e-Driver"/InstAll.exe file, that should complete successfully.

Good luck.

Once the keyboard "FN" key problem is resolved, then you can go to their site and see if they have any updated version of drivers for your video/blah/blah ... thingies.

cheers, Arun Sangal

I cannot type a 0 on the keyboard and numbers are coming up when I type

Hi,

You have the number lock on (Num Lock). Just hit the Num Lock key and it should revert to normal. If this does not work hold down Fn and then hit the Num lock key.

Function Key Issue

Your keyboard may have a function key lock (could be up in the right corner) that locks the keys in the Fn mode. Look for that. I have seen this on several keyboards. On some keyboards I've been able to get around this by hitting the print screen, scroll lock, or pause key to unlock it.
