Question about Whirlpool 24 in. DU910PFG Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

The vent that lets the steam escape has mildew.

The outer vent has mildew and I took q-tips and tried to clean it. The inner vent that is attached to the outer vent has mildew, too. The mildew is running down into my silverware basket. I've cleaned with cloth, sprayed cleaner in the vent and attempted to take the cover off. It has a slot and looks like it should come off but I had no luck removing it. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Dishes not drying and mildew growing in dishwasher

I've been researching Whirlpool issues for awhile now and the solution would appear to be not to ever buy anothere Whirlpool appliance.

Most of the dishwasher they've put out have broken down in one way or another within the first 3 years. Some start fires. Lawsuits, website complaints, calls, letters, NOTHING seems to change their policy as to simply have one of their repair people come out and offer to fix it for nearly the cost of the unit.

This mildew issue is fairly common...ditch it. Get a new one. Avoid Whirlpool. Don't believe me? Try calling them to fix or replace it.

I sincerely hope it works out for you one way or the other.

Is a gap at top between outer door panel and inner control door on Kitchenaid dishwasher KUDE normal?

When the dishwasher starts the drying cycle, there has to be vent that the steam can escape and it just so happens to be on the left side.

Typically in this area of the dishwasher door there should not be any leaking. You might be experiencing severe steam and condensation from a cycle that has been completed. You may also go to open the door after a cycle is completed, and a little residual water will escape out of the vent that is angled downward.

Just want to clean the dishwasher without any dishes in it

I would definitely recommend distilled vinegar before any commercial cleaner. It is an excellent descaling and cleaning agent that is all natural and will not harm the appliance. Use about 1/4 cup and use a heated setting. Make sure you also wipe down the inner door facing where it meets to the door gasket and clean the gasket. These are areas the dishwasher cannot clean on its own. Also check the area at the base of the door along the inside. Soap scunge and mildew can form there. It is also an area that the dishwasher does not self clean very well. If you have any persistent odors, you may have to remove the lower spray arm to access and clean the main wash pump strainer area. If you have questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

GE model GSD600003 repair manual: Before you answer this, please tell me if I will be charged for the answer, in case I'm not interested at this time. Do you have a diagram of the drain area and water...

I'm not sure how mildew can grow in a dishwasher that is working well, but after cleaning it and putting things back together, it does now seem to be working. I thought that the water wasn't filling but I guess the heating element heats up before the water fills the dishwasher. So when I tried again and started the dishwasher from the beginning and waited, it did progress to filling water and going through the whole cycle.

Leak from dishwasher door

Usually this problem is an easy fix. Try this first.
1.) clean the rubber seal that goes around the door and the knife edge on the unit with a dish rag to remove any dirt. Also check for cracks and dents as you go. If you find a crack in the rubber ... replace .
If you find a crack in the plastic knife edge of the unit, you will have to epoxy it and sand smooth (carefully)

2.) OK, if that didn't help ...on mine, there is a steam release vent. On the outside of the door is a vent that releases steam from the hot water. On the inside of the door is a removable water trap that might be full of old gunky stuff. Clean that stuff out of there.

Let me know if you need more help.
Best of Luck,

Door gasket or sealOver time, door gaskets and seals harden and lose their ability to seal properly. You can't repair the seals. You need to replace them if they've begun to leak.

Wet dishes; steam does not escape

Hi, Most dishwashers do not have steam vents! there are several reasons for poor drying in a d/washer! The first one is to see that you have rinse aid in the machine as this aids drying! Next if you have rinse aid then is it being put into the machine when it needs it? Also you must bear in mind that the dishwasher need to heat on the last rinse to create the heat to dry the items which use the steam to dry them. Check the rinse aid first and see how you get on....
