My Fuji 3800 has begun losing the date/time and other stored memory items
whenever the battery cover is opened.
The camera works fine otherwise. It's about 8 months old and has always
retained the time/date when changing batteries. The manual indicates the
date/time will remain in memory for hours without external power.
It's more of an inconvenience now, but I wonder if this is a common issue
with the camera, and if this problem can turn into something more serious.
Anybody know if the Fuji 3800 has an internal Lithium battery or ESD
capacitor to retain the memory?

The date/time will reset when opening the battery door for only a few
seconds.
Tried freshly charged and checked battery so it's not that the cells are
weak.
I'm assuming something in the camera is not retaining data.
All other functions on the camera work great.

Did you try leaving the camera off for a minute or two, and then open the
battery door?
I ran into the same problem as you did. When this happened I had just turned
on the display, then off, and opened the door. Also, the batteries I
inserted were warm.
Last two times I let the camera sit for 15 seconds before and after a
battery change, and settings were retained.

Try changing batteries when the battery indicator appears, and not when
the camera is totally out of power. Also try turning the camera off for more
than a minute or two before trying to change the batteries, and have the new
batteries ready and change them rapidly. That might help prevent you from
losing the settings?

Your tip helped solve the problem with my Fuji Finepix F10 as well. Well, not solve, but get around... :) Much appreciated, and now much less annoyed at every battery change! Hopefully I can get a few more years out of my camera now.
