Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, i need to make 2 minidiscs....burning a copy onto a cd or pc would not be helpful in my case. I need to copy one minidisc to another minidisc. Any other suggestions?? I appreciate any additional help...

What you want to do is impossible. All minidisc units except for the later Hi-MD were designed so that discs could not be copied exactly as an anti piracy measure.

The only way is to connect the headphone socket of one machine to the microphone socket of the other. As this means the signal will be converted from digital to audio, pass through an amplifier and then be reconverted from audio to digital there will be a small loss of quality. You can minimise it by delving into the menu of the exporting player and setting the headphone socket to "line" which bypasses the volume control to give a better quality sound output.

I think an easier way would be to copy the disk to your pc and burn a new copy from there.

Whilst I fully appreciate your reply, once a copy of the orginal mini disk has been made and saved to your pc, you can burn as many copies as you wish.

There are numerous software programs available to make this a simple process. Some of them freeware.

If your pc is not capable of burning DVD's then an external usb device is an alternative at not too great expense.

I apologise that I am unable to advise you on hooking up your existing units but hope my suggestions may have helped provide an alternative solution.

    My best wishes,

Mini disk player JES510 want to record some midi tracks using the optical link. keeps saying din unlock & then if try says cannot record. How can I overcome this? Help appreciated.

Like most home recorders the minidisc will not let you make digital copies of a digital original. The idea is to prevent piracy of copyrighted material.

Unfortunately, that includes digital tracks you yourself made,

Just go through the analog inputs. It will sound fine.

PS - professional minidisc recorders will let you record digitally, but they are expensive.
