You can use just about any generic desktop dvd drive for your desktop, you just have to open the case to swap them. Or you could purchase an external usb drive as well if that's more convenient for you.

Did yours stop working?

Try the manufacturer's website.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Sony Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Audio drivers.

Try using the VLC Player. it comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve many sound and audio issues.

Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com and in the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Download and install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It's a very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formats and media. It's totally FREE.

Computer does not want to play a video. is asking for a DVD decoder.

Certain software that plays media require a DVD decoder that you can purchase. You can also go to www.snapfiles.com, look at the freeware tab and you may be able to find a DVD player program that will play your DVD.

I have a Sony Vaio desktop with XP. My DVD-CD

Have you tried burning a CD in the new drive? Because the drive is a DVD it will always be recognised as a DVD, but should work perfectly well with CDs both playing and recording.

Have set up a new SONY DVD player. How do I set my RCA Cable TV so I can play a DVD. My Channel Code is #3 on the TV

use the color coded wires that were supplied with the DVD player plug them into the inputs on your rca tv then use you remote and there should be a button that says input i know my rca tv does. Then you push this button and it lets the tv use the input plugs. If there is more than one plug in on your tv push the button till you see your DVD players on screen menu.

The problem you are having is the DVD player. Not all DVD players will play a burned DVD. Some set top DVD players are know for being very picky about what type of DVD's they will play, and Phillips is very bad about this.

If you have the owners manual for the DVD player, look inside and see what type of disc's are playable. if it should play them DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R. DVD+RW should all be listed.

Right now about 80% of DVD players do not play burned DVD's

In time they all will play them, but for some unknownn reason, some are still made without this ability.

Also, not all DVD-R's are created equal.

The best quality of DVD's to buy for burning are Taiyo Yuden. But Sony, memorex, and Maxell are also pretty good.

One way to be certain about the quality of the burned DVD's is to take one to a friends house or anybody you know who has a set top DVD player and see if it plays in their DVD player.

That will at least tell you if the DVD's you are burning are at fault or not. But my guess is that you r Phillips is the culprit here.

I hope this was helpful to you, if so a good rating would really be appreciated.

I have been buring DVD's since they started selling them for the PC. compatibility has been the only problem I have had.
My sony DVD player plays everything I throw at it.
