But with Winxp it picks up when I start up the pc with xp cd, it picks up the 80 gb hard disk and install. However after the installation, it still does not recoznise the 80 gb hdd in bios. Can you give me tips and help me to update the bios for mainboard described above?

Hi,

I am ArmyMason and I believe the issue is the hard drive is too large for the system you have. That board is old and back in the day they didnt support large hard drives. You could try using a boot disk and partition the hard drive into 20 GB drives and see if that works.

Link to specs.

Thanks ArmyMason

Dear i am using ms-7142 v-1 motherboard. now i,m using ide 80 gb hdd.now i want to connect 160 gb sata hdd.its not showing bios also.hdd is working fine.i reinstalled os.and installed sata raid driver

first thing I would try is seeing if the sata drive is recognised on another motherboard if at all possible ,in order to eliminate the motherboard as the issue. If it is recognised on a different motherboard it is more than likeley a bad cable or a bad board .

Bajar los drives, es decir el cd de instalacion del mainboard

Had to look hard for this one....hope you have a dvd burner...the total size for all the files is around 2.9 gb.
go to this link and download all the drivers and burn them to a disk then use that to install after operating system is installed.

this is the live update link to download the drivers:

Gigabyte 945 gzm s2 doesn`t recognize HDD Western Digital 320 GB

You might need to change your bios settings from ide to sata. Have you already checked the bios settings? If everything is in order you might have a bad board. What have you tried so far?

Cannot pick up sata hdd

Hi there
VIA K8M800 is an AMD platform motherboard and should pick up the sata drive. Connect the drive to the motheboard, make sure that both leads are connected, go into the bios and set the bios to default settings, hit F10, save and exit, the machine will restart, go back into the bios and check to make sure its been picked up by the system.
post back if you need any more help

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Motherboard doesn't accept WD 40 gig on.

When you say "the system didn't work with that", do you mean it didn't identify the drive? When you go into the BIOS setup, are the drives displayed, or are they shown as "Auto"? Did you correctly change the WD drives jumper to Master, and the old drive, to Slave?

MS 6712 motherboard

check the cables, and if all connection pins are on the drives or on the motherboard. Not all the needed communication routs between the drives and the motherboard are working....
U can also try another IDE slot (if more than 1)
If all checks ok, try a BIOS reset... (but most probably is just the cables ...)
