Safari for Windows not starting

I downloaded Safari for Windows on February 23, 2009.   I am running Vista.
When I try to launch Safari, it doesn't launch.   I get two messages:   .  "Safari Web Browser has stopped working" (popup over Safari) .  "Safari.exe-  Corrupt File" (popup from system tray)
Any idea how to get Safari to run?

I have tried the following solutions, to no avail:

    • Uninstall, re-download, re-install.  Same problem.

    • Uninstall, download Safari 4 Beta, re-install.  Same problem.

    • Run Chkdsk.exe.  (I noticed that Windows was suggesting I do this.)  Chkdsk.exe appears to start, then instantly disappears.

I have tried the uninstall/reinstall solution, but it hasn't worked. I also seem to have an issue with Chkdsk.exe, which may or may not be related. Please see my previous comment for details.

I appreciate that there are other browsers out there.  Part of my job requires me to do QA on a website, so I need to be able to see how it looks and behaves in a variety of browsers.  Chrome, Firefox, and IE run fine on my Vista PC.  I still need to be able to run Safari.

You can not use Safari at all on Windows. Apple software on Windows is really not a good idea. It is for OSX not windows.

Best way is use internet explorer 7 instead. It's integrated into Vista, and with Safe Mode, you can practically guarantee that your browser won't be a place for malware to enter through. And it's also more compatible. You can get it from microsoft website free of charge
There is IE7 Pro, it's an add-on that adds extra features like spell check, Tab History, extra scripts, adBlocker, and so much more. It's pretty much the ultimate IE7 add-on. It has everything you'll probably ever need. You can get it from here

Good Luck

First thing you should do is uninstall Safari.

You can do this in the control panel, under programs.

Then re-download the application and reinstall.

If that doesn't work we'll try something else.

It's best to start with the simple solutions first though.

Best of luck!

Sorry I didn't see your other posts before I suggested mine.

So far Ginko's suggestions sounds the best to me. I'll see what I can dig up myself.

How are you running the chkdsk?

    So ASKMEE what about itunes?

Should windows users never use any Apple products period?

You need to get out of that mindset. That's like telling Apple users not to use Office because it's a PC product.

What you're saying makes no sense.

If the problem becomes too big of a hassle to narrow down you might want to just install the program on another computer for the mean time and then try again in a few weeks or once a new version is released.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A couple of ideas you may want to try when installing:

  • temporarily disable your antivirus;
  • temporarily disable your firewall;
  • right click to run as Administrator.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

I heard elsewhere that there are several issues regarding safari on Vista.

Try using the run as administrator on Vista, or to run safari in XP compatibility mode.

See:

Firefox is a very popular web browser that enables you to search and navigate the web. It allows you to run a number of components, such as toolbars, download managers and video players, to enhance your browsing experience. However, you can run into occasional display problems and crashes that require some troubleshooting. With some simple guidelines, repair common Firefox problems and improve your browser.

Print or write these directions down before proceeding. Close down Firefox and click the Windows Start menu on the desktop. Select "All Programs" and navigate to the "Mozilla Firefox" folder. Click "Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)" in the folder. This launches Mozilla Firefox Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, you can repair Firefox issues. Select the areas you want to repair on the "Safe Mode" window. For example, select "Reset toolbars and controls" if you want to remove third-party toolbars. Select "Disable add-ons" if you want to disable plug-ins such as download managers. Click the "Make Changes and Restart" button to repair the web browser. Restart your web browser normally after you complete the repair process. Step 5. Uninstall and reinstall Firefox if you are still having problems with it. To do so, go to the Mozilla Firefox download page and click "Free Download" (see Below). http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ie.html When prompted, click "Save" and save the browser installation file on your desktop. Click the Windows Start menu and click "Control Panel." Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to launch the programs list if you are using Windows XP. For Windows Vista and 7 users, launch the programs list by clicking "Programs" and clicking "Programs and Features." Click "Firefox" and click "Remove/Uninstall" to remove the web browser from your computer. Double-click the Firefox installation file you downloaded in Step 5 and click "Run" to reinstall the web browser on your computer.

How to repair hotmail file

Windows Mail, the default email client included with Windows Vista, depends on the integrity of its message database--also called the message store--to function properly. If your computer is shut down unexpectedly while the message store is in use, you may find that Windows Mail exhibits strange behavior or does not run properly because the Windows Mail database is corrupt. Clean up the Windows Mail message store using built-in features or a third-party utility to resolve this issue.
Launch Windows Mail. Click the "Tools" menu at the top of the screen, then click "Options." Click the "Advanced" tab, then click the "Maintenance" button at the bottom of the window. Click the button labeled "Clean Up Now." Click the "Reset" button. Note that this will clear all messages out of the Windows Mail message store and that your messages will need to be downloaded from the server again. This operation cannot be reversed. Click "Yes." Close all open windows when the operation is complete, then close and reopen Windows Mail. After downloading your messages from the server, Windows Mail should behave normally. If this does not resolve the issue or if you have an issue that prevents you from using Windows Mail, proceed to Section 2. b> Using WMUtil b> Download WMUtil using the link below. http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx Extract the archive to the location of your choice. Run "WMUtil.exe" to launch the repair utility. Click the "Repair Database" button. You will see a window reminding you that this operation should only be performed when the Windows Mail database is damaged or corrupt, as there is a possibility of losing information. Click "OK" to continue. The window will close automatically when the operation is complete. Launch Windows Mail. The program should now operate properly. Hope this helps.

I click the safari icon, it bounces then stops and does nothing. i have already uninstalled and reinstalled it

First make sure you have the most current Safari installed, Next turn your computer off and leave off for about two-five minutes, the longer the better. Next try to start Safari, if it still does not start up on it's own uninstall the software completely, meaning taking it out of your applications (for mac), control panel install/remove (for windows), go to Apple.com and install the current software for Safari, make sure it's from Apple (which is free), and not anywhere else, downloading from anywhere else can cause a virus to download. Once you install, it will prompt you to restart your computer, do so, after you restart your computer, Safari should open with no problem!

HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM error Ox80280007

Check in Programs and Features that via "Windows Live Essentials" the old Windows Live Messenger has been removed. You could even try some third party uninstaller such as "Revo" to uninstall the older version and its' left over debris.
Uninstall Utilities
http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwuninstallers.html

Once you do this, be sure to run ATF cleaner to clean up temp files.

Once that is done, download

Windows Live Essentials
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials?os=other

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, right click on the file; and choose "run as administrator"

Instead of hitting run, SAVE it to your desktop; then click on it to launch. That should get you going!

Please leave positive feed back if you find this helpful.

Last time i delete my internet explorer how i can download it again?

Directly from Microsoft using another computer. Go here
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/worldwide-sites.aspx
select the country and operating system than download the installer (as in Save, not Run). Move that installer on a USB stick, plug that stick in your pc and launch the installer.
But for security reasons i recommend you to install a different browser - in my opinion Opera  http://www.opera.com/   is the fastest and safest of them all. Again download the installer, put it on a stick, put the stick on your pc and launch it.
