Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I have a wrong cartridge error. However, I cannot access the printhead since it does not move when I open the cover. The printhead remains stucked in the right corner. BTY, I'm not using OEM cartidges, just cheaper replacements. Any suggestion will be appreciated.I have a wrong cartridge error message but the head does move into position when cover opened. I can't seem to clear the error. I reseated, and changed the cartridges.
Dear mthibault610,
RE: Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One Ink Jet Printer "Printer Locked Out by Error Code & Will Not Print"
Is the above referenced printer the one your telling us about?
If so what is the error code?
Have you tried unplugging everything attached to it for a least 1 minute then rebooting as suggested already?

Try resetting the printer :
Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.
Gently push the cartridge carrier to the center remove all the cartridge and remove print head allow these steps :
# Hold the printhead upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Your printer ink cartridge can not access (move to middle) when you open up the cover, you may try
1) try to open right side cover you move the cartridge by hand (power
off) to middle position, then take out the cartridge and reinstall it
then power on, the cartridge moving right, you may open up the cover
again if the cartridge go back the middle position which means your
printer works normal. still stop moving go next
2) check the cartridge initcial sensor at righe side, the cartridge
moving to the end of right should be touch this sensor, find out it and
check there is good touch (click) by the cartridge body. adjust the
sensor position maybe needed.
3) cartridge is stucked sometime also check the cartridge moving rail hard moving, need to drop oil to lubricate.

Canon support has a print head replacement (it's the black thing that
the ink cartridges sit in) for about $50 including UPS ground shipping.
Their phone number is 1-800-828-4040
,
part number is QY6-0049-000. I was going to buy one, but when I talked
to the parts dept., they sold me a new one (with same capabilities,
including duplex printing) for $120 plus tax and free ground shippping
- with 1 year warranty on all parts. You can decide, mine was a few
years old and is starting to have multiple problems, so I opted for the
new one.

The problem I reported was incorrectly posted. My problem is similar but not the same.
I get the message "wrong cartridge" but have OEM cartridges. The print head behaves as expected. The printer is locked out by the error code and will not print.
The probem persists. I had unplugged for at least 5 minutes. As soon as unit is powered up, the error light is flashing with the same code as before.
How can I be sure the print head replacement will solve problem? It seems to be a connection or something to me. How do you remove the carraige?
