Question about Canon PIXMA MP600 all-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Canon MP600 control panel is blank

We cannot view any of the options, which makes doing anything other than copying from the computer impossible.

    I have a Mac

  • simonepavlid Feb 24, 2009

Fair enough, however, I do believe it is a printer problem, not a computer problem. The control panel of which I speak is on the printer. Perhaps it is called the control display.

Our connection is wireless. Unplugging it overnight did nothing to improve the situation. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for trying to help. We'll have to go to the Canon people.

If you have the original CD/DVD that came with it:
- Open the Control Panel - Open the Printer and Fax folder - Delete any occurrance of the MP600 there - With the printer on, reboot the PC and let Windows 'find a new device.' It should bring up a dialogue box that offers to install a driver or give you the option to get one from a disk. If it does that, insert the disk in your optical drive and Win should be able to find the Canon software and reinstall it.
I use italics because Windows often DOESN'T do what  it should.
Good luck-

Sorry, but that is one of those details that deserves being mentioned.
Maybe there's a Mac guy around.

Does disconnecting the interface from the Mac do anything that you can see?

If it does, it may be a USB problem that could be on either end.

I would also try pulling the AC plug overnight; it may have tripped over itself internally and locked up.

If you have other wireless devices, you can verify whether your Mac is even trying to connect to those.
The problem could be related to either the Mac's transmissions or the printer's reception.
It's conceivable that the display won't show anything if it isn't receiving any initiation signals, limiting it to local use.

Other than that, you may be forced to have a tech put it on the bench for troubleshooting.
The trouble could be in the power supply of the printer or something as primitive as a faulty internal connector.

About the only thing you might try before bringing it to a repair shop is to gently use your fingertip on the LCD display and sweep across it to see if this has any effect on it.
These displays have a thin film deposit on the rear of the glass of the display that contacts to the signal path via a silicone rubber strip with very fine conductors embedded in it and the positioning of the strip is critical; if only a few thousandths misaligned can cause missing segments or if on a ground or other common contact, cause nothing to be displayed.
Applying a gentle pressure with a fingertip can often cause contact to be restored long enough to show a segment or symbol.

WIthout having access to your Canon that is about all I can do for you and I haven't been in business for about a decade; been there, done that.

Do you have ink in the cartridges? Just because the computer says there is ink does not mean there really is ink.

Try making a copy and see if it copies. That will tell you if you have ink. Just go to the canon all in one and place something on it to copy and press copy from the controls panel on the printer.

I have had the mp600 for 3 years - worked fine on a couple of different pcs. I switched to a mac and encountered 2 issues - scanner stopped working and above problem of no black ink. The newest driver (just google mp600 driver) fixed the scanner issue. The ink issue has a work around - select non plain paper in the media quality tab, instead use any photo paper setting. Finding this area in a mac can be tricky - in the mini print options window you have to click the small chubby arrow and you will then be given a list of options including quality and media. Presto, black ink returns but probably uses more ink and takes longer to print. I have not found a more elegant solution as you have to select this non default paper option every time.

Cant make a copy

I have the mp600, I'd assume there's a black and color button under where it says start. Try one of those when you have what you want to copy face down on the scanner bed.

Hope that helps.
