I have a LS2208 wedge connected through PS2 connection to the back of a PC running Windows XP. The scanner works fine but the keyboard is not recognized by the PC at all, even though I can see that the keyboard is getting power to it because the Number Lock key is lit up.
Please advise me on how to set this up so that both the scanner and the keyboard can work simultaneously.
Check that the wedge is good. It is basically a hybrid spltter that powers both the scanner and the keyboard.
If so, you may want to go direct to either a serial port or a USB direct connection

You can try scanning the Keyboard Wedge host type barcode IBM AT Notebook then rebooting your PC. If this does not work you should order a CBA-U01-S07ZAR. This is the USB cable for use with the LS2208. Zebra Technologies support solution ADC-00217 addresses this type of issue. The article was written for connecting to a laptop, but your connection is similar if you do not have a keyboard attached to the cable. This link will take you to the solution which includes the IBM AT Notebook barcode. portal motorolasolutions com Print the article and scan the barcode then reboot your PC.
The LS2208 is a universal scanner with many supported interfaces. Please check the ATS if one of the interfaces are available. See the list below:
Undecoded Scanner Emulation
hello, once you have it connected to your computer via usb, serial or keyboard wedge, you scan the barcodes that come in the user guide to set it up, its pretty much a plug and play. you can find the quick start guide at
A solution to your problem would be to use usb cable to connect the scanner to the POS system. I have had a similar issue in the past where the IBM pos system did not like the cable that the customer had and we've got around this by using usb instead.
I hope this helps you although it may not be the kind of answer that you were looking for,
You will need to scan the barcode that configures the LS scanner to use keyboard wedge or even the set all defaults barcode. You will be able to find both of this on the product reference guide that you can download from www.symbol.com in the support page.
When I connected this scanner (purchased at a great discount through eBay) to my computer using the keyboard wedge (with a ps2 connection - the round connector) I received the error message that my computer could not recognize this external hardware. I went to barcodediscount.com and ordered the usb connector for this scanner as usb connections are usually recognized. The part # for this connector is STI85-0200R. It cost 72.55 with shipping, but I received the scanner at such a wonderful price that I thought I'd chance it and try it with a usb rather than a keyboard wedge connector. The computer immediately recognized the usb connection, and the usb connector comes with a manual with codes to enable proper scanning, but still no luck getting the data into the computer. So I called Symbol's technical support department. The technician told me to remove the rubber "boot" at the bottom of the hand held scanner (not the scanner base) by pulling on the front of it (where the 2 little round circles are). It's tough to remove, but keep at it. Then gently remove the battery and unplug it, then plug it back in and reattach the base. He said this would reset the battery. Voila!!!! Sucess!!!!
If your scanner's keyboard wedge connection is recognized (a little popup window will say that it is a Symbol barcode scanner and that it is installed and ready to use), try taking the battery out and putting it back in to reset it. Hopefully this will also work for you. Symbol's technical support # is (800) 722-6234.
the scanner turns on automatically as he he receives power from the host interface.
Please check the cables and connection.
For RS232 interface would you need an external power supply.
USB can power the scanner without external power supply.
By Keyboard Wedge installation please connnect also the Keyboard.
We are major Symbol/Motorola dealers...I can help. I don't understand your question. (By the way, by changing the cable on your keyboard wedge models, you can also use them on the USB ports. Give me a call at 1-866-306-7226, or you can also contact the Help Desk at 1-800-653-5350
You could use a ps2 splitter cable to connect both the barcode scanner and the keyboard to the pc.
You would also have to use the correct scanner codes to ensure that the scanner is configured properly.
Alternatively, you could try connecting the scanner with only the ps2 to usb and miss out the extension cable to determine if that is the problem.
If the scanner is a ps2 wedge scanner, it will need reprogrammed with the correct scanner codes for usb.
