Question about Sony KDF-E50A10 50 in. LCD HDTV
While watching a movie yesterday on our flatscreen Sony, we heard a loud...pop or clap sound inside the tv and about 2 minutes later 2 very large wide diagonal lines appeared in the upper left corner of the screen.
When looked at closely it looks like rips inside the screen. Almost as though the screen parts have seperated? Not sure. Also the screen now is off-set. It looks as though it is being pushed to the right. The left side has a sway to it cause it to have part of the screen have no picture.
We are baffled by this. A repair man is coming as we bought maximum protection on it 2 years back when we purchased it from Sears, but what can he do? Is it fixable? What even is it that occured??
When I got my new LCD big screen, it had a black line across the entire width. It looked like the screen was pinched.
They claim that it can be repaired but that repair costs as much as a new tv.
My tv was replaced. Hopefully your warranty is still in place to get the unit replaced.

SOURCE: the screen went black
I tried to see where you come from but it was unspecified. If you are in the States you might be lucky....go here and have a look they might be able to fix your screen up.. http://lcdrepair.net

The problem is the actual PDP panel address chips blown or a faulty ribbon cable to the PDP or if your lucky it may be a dry joint - Tap the ribbon while the set is on very lightly on all cables with something plastic and see if the black line goes away - if so your lucky and its an easy but fiddly repair.

SOURCE: I have a SONY WEGA flat screen, last night while watching tv, there was a loud pop in the tv, now the LAMP light keeps flashing and there is a grinding sound coming from in the set. No Picture, no ot
The loud pop was a capacitor blowing.
The light is flashing because either power board or ballast board is faulty.
Using the TV in this conditions can cause further damage.
If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual
If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.
