Question about Dell Dimension 9100 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Flashing amber light

No LED lights on p.c. where numbers are supposed to be according to Dell. This is a Dell Dimension 9100. Turned off p.c. on Friday, came in on Monday, and it won't power up. No clue what is wrong.

Thanks. What we did try was taking the hard drive out (so I could at least get what was stored on the c: drive), and put it into the same type of computer. Unfortunately though, that computer would not boot up when we started it. Now my problem is trying to get my files off of the hard drive. Any suggestions?

Flashing amber is normally a failed power supply. So replace the power supply ($50 to 100 depending on the size you buy) Recommend 500 Watt or higher.

Since that isn't one of the listed codes, it is important to see what the POWER LED indicates.
If it is Flashing Amber, most likely a bad power supply
If power LED is solid amber, then either the motherboard, or a expansion card in the motherboard has failed. Remove any expansion cards, (Modem, sound or video card) try booting again.
If no Change then a motherboard

Blinking amber light with green 4 light

If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Try, unplugging the power cable from the pc, and reinsert it, if this does not help try a differnt power outlet, if this dont help, open the computer, take the power Molex conector out of the mother board and try turning it on, if this dont help, take out the Memory modules and reseat them, if this dont work you may want to ring up dell support.

Hope this helps!

Dell Dimension 5150 automatically turns off

That flashing amber light is usually a sign the power supply is failed or is failing. I would suspect the power supply is the problem in yours. It is the better of the two problems connected with the flashing amber light..the other is motherboard is failing. Arrrr!
hope this helps (it takes a standard- oh say 350 watt 20-24 pin power supply unit.)
Hope an answer helps.
Please leave rating, thankyou

My Dell 9100 desktop won't start.

Hey mate... Now there could be a number of things wrong with your PC.. First thing is that on the back of the main tower there are 4 Lights that glow if the system is ok but in case of issues they glow in different patterns according to the potential problem... look out for those lights n refer em to this chart

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim9100/en/SM/adtshoot.htm#wp1054146

Also in case of potential component failtures the system gives out beep codes in patterns (maybe the sounds u hear at startup)... Do a quick check

Now regardless we can perform a basic troubleshooting...now you seem to be tech savy enough so do one thing... remove all the chords from the system... then hold dowm the power button to discharge the flea power... now remove all the components one by one n reseat them immediately... this will reset the connections n then try n restart again... if the problem persists then post the 4 led code here n we'll go from there mate :-)
