Question about Maytag MAV6200 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Grit Deposits Getting what appears to be a rubber-based grit in the washer. It's marking up the clothes. Not sure if there's some form of seal that's deteriorated or something is occuring in some other part (like maybe the pump. No indication of a lead. The input filters both look clean. I'd bought new hoses, but after looking at the filters, I'm not surprised that wasn't the problem.

Okay. I broke out a wrench. Under the agitator there's a plastic spoke-type gear over a metal bushing with a rubber insert. That's all pretty much gone. And that, maybe in combo with whatever the potting-looking stuff us at the base of the inner basket (a cup about 2" in diameter with the inner basket bolts just outside that diameter) look to be the culpret. Next, I'm on a parts search.

Thanks. I've learned that this is the older Seal Nut which is no longer available. Maytag changed this seal as part of an entire seal kit; the new kit requires a higher-torque transmission. So to replace this little part, I need to replace the entire transmission and associated seal kit. Not a cost effective solution since the washer cost $400 and the parts alone cost over $200 (plus some special tools). All this because they no longer make the original seal nut. Since the seal nut is bad, I'm running the washer as long as it will go before I have to replace the emtire unit (for about the price I'd be paying to replace the seal).

The arm controls the Flush Valve. Inside the flush valve is a black rubber "seal" that closes the end of the fill pipe and stops the water. If a piece of sand, grit, or small rock gets imbedded in the seal it will allow water to pass through even when the tank is full. Either you take apart the flush valve and remove the grit, or you replace the whole valve. Sometimes even when the grit is removed the rubber seal is damaged and must be replaced. A new valve, and some of these replacement seals can be purchased at a good hardware or plumbing supply store. Use the valve handle, below the tank, on the pipe that comes through the wall, to turn off the water before replacing the seal or valve.

Black marks appearing on towels. Look like marker, smudged.

it could be the seal on the front of the drum starting to break down.
clean the seal at the front of the drum that seals the door. then rub a white cloth/towel around the seal

if there are any marks left by the seal then the rubber compouds are starting to break down and the seal needs to be replaced.

please feel free to ask for detailed instructions on changing this seal if you need them

Dishwasher deposits dirt on dishes. Grit, small particles.

I have the same problem. We cleaned the dishwasher out because the grit was coming from the dishwasher...however, we still have dirt/grit in our dishes, but a lot less. How do we get rid of this all together?

Kenmore clothes washing machine water drip

Replace your washer mixing valve. This is the fill valve for your washer. Also install the newer safer stainless steel fill hoses and install fine mesh coned hose screen washers in the end that connects to your house valves. This will prevent the grit or corrosion from getting into your new washer valve and causing another repair. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

When we run the wash, black marks appear on some clothes. No pens or foreign objects are in the washer.

It can either be the rubber seal around the washer door or the bearings (normally sealed) for the tub may be leaking and getting grease into the tub. I think usually the bearing grease is brown in color. For some reason, as the rubber seals deteriorate, they tend to mark up clothes. At least that has been my experience. You may try wiping them down with some sort of cleaner (fantastic, greased lightening, etc) and see if that helps any.

Black streaks on my laundry

Marks on clothing in a washer are usually caused by a reaction between detergents and fabric softeners, especially cheaper bargain brands.
If you are sure that the black streaks are getting on the clothing in the washer versus the dryer, it could also be oil from the transmission getting into the washer tub. See if the spots will come out using a petroleum distillate of some kind. (paint thinner, etc). If a petroleum distillate will remove the marks, it is most likely something petroleum based that is making the marks.
This is a rare occurrence, and most marks on laundry are caused by the dryer. Typically, the drum rollers wear out and rubber and metal filings can get into the dryer and mark/streak clothing. Hope this helped and sorry for the problem you are having. Best wishes.

Duet 6hw9150p leaks when i put a full load

Is the door seal dirty?
A dirty door seal can cause a leak. Remove and clean any dirt or deposits around the inner door seal with a damp cloth. The door glass seals against the rubber seal; dirt or deposits can prevent a proper seal and cause leaks.

Amana washer "goo" on clothes?

Ann, these Amana's are the mother of all washers to change out the seal and bearings. It's possible you just have a lot of gunk built up on the inside of the basket from years of washing. I would not put a cent into it. You are better off getting a new direct drive washer. back.
