Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

The shingled roof on my mobile home does not have an overhang and with our hard Wisconsin winters, ice backs up and forces leaking within the trailer. The roof does not need replaced. How can I correct my problem? I thought of putting on a drip-edge. Any ideas?????

You actually posted this in the wrong area but I am originally from Minnesota and can tell you. What's happening is called ice damming. They do make a drip edge type of thing that isn't very expensive for just this very thing. Go to Lowes, Homedepot, Menards etc. NOT your local trailer supply as they usually charge more. The clerk at the hardware store should be able to help you. Good luck. Please don't forget to give me a Fixya rating.

How do I re-roof my house easily

If you mean re shingling, here in USA there are usually building codes to be complied with, such as: If there is just one layer of shingles on the building, you can add a second layer, but if there are two layers of shingles they both must be removed, and new tar paper installed before a layer of shingles are placed. Also with all shingles removed is a time to inspect and replace all rotten wood of roof, before repapering and reshingling. If you've never seen of watched the process by done by professionals, I'd recommend getting bids from three roofers, and pay the best price to do it. Get a full written contract before they start, because there could be significant damages if there are leaks after the job is done.
Maybe watch some youtube videos of roof reshingling. there are many special tool techniques to do the job right, (And not fall off the roof either)

How do I find where the leak is in my roof flashing?

If you can't see where the leak is coming from exactly you can start from where you think the leak is and lift the roof shingles if its the right place you will start to find mold under them and that's where you should start fixing the roof.

Coleman furnace

Is this a blend air system? If so, there is an upper & lower control board that communicate to each other, and if the exhaust fan on the roof is out, it will give you intermittent issues. The fan mixes or blends outside air with the return of the air handler, & duals to pressurize the attic. These were installed due to mobile homes built too air tight. Without this fan, your roofing shingles will curl, and your roof decking will bow prematurely.

Residential reroof, 3 layers comp. is ice & water required over eaves & rakes ???

Probably not required unless an older home or low slope roof, but very easy and not expensive to do when re-roofing. When attics were poorly insulated snow would melt above the attic from heat lost from the house, then refreeze at the eave causing an ice dam. More melting water hits the ice dam then back up under roof shingles and felt paper.

It is not required, but your specific conditions could warranty it. If your roofer is recommending it I would do it.

Surface area =300 square feet 25 year old ash

Ash fault? I think you mean "asphalt" but that's OK. You haven't given enough information to solve the problem, but here's what you need to do.

You know the area of the roof is 300 square feet (sq ft). You should know the area of each asphalt shingle, although that's the information you didn't give. When you know that figure, the calculation is very simple:

number of shingles needed = area of roof / area of one shingle

I don't know if this is a class problem, or if you really have a roofing job. Don't forget that on a real roof, the shingles overlap. If you do the calculation, the number you get is right only if you lay the shingles edge-to-edge. A real-world roof would need probably twice that number. Shingles come packed in bundles, and they usually tell you the area they cover. (By the way, 100 square feet is termed a "square".)

You must conact your roofer and complain... COMPLAIN.. it sounds like you have a leak and the installers have allowed moistere to get under the roofing materials...!!!

Basically water expands when it freezes (ice cube tray.. over filled ) so if there's any kind of leak the water penetrates.. feezes allowing it to migrate up under the materials and then as the warm air from inside the attic causes the ice to then melt. I'd call and find out what the deal is.. especially if this has been going on SINCE the new roof was installed....

good luck
