Question about Dell XPS One Desktop

1 Answer

Will not turn on

It acts like it is coming on and then it shuts off and repeats it self over and over again. this started after I came in to use (was on sleep mood) than a big box came up and files lost and press F12. I did and than it came on put was making a very funny noise so I turned it off and then turn it back on and now it is doing what i said in the first sentence. Also when it shut off the printer was still on and that usually goes off when the computer does.

I will try this I have tried everything else.

I tried what you suggested but it did not work. Now I can only turn on the computer with the remote but it does not stay on long. It still comes on all and than off. It only comes on for less than a minute.

ok let me know how it goes so that I can help you further.

    Thank you.

I think it might be related to the power supply or maybe something with
the actual board since it is going off and not restarting. It must be
a hardware fault. When this happens what is present on the screen. is
there a microsoft windows logo ?

I cannot logon to my PC

Start your PC in safe mode, to do this repeatedly tap the F8 key as soon as you turn the power on. This will then bring up an "options" screen listing boot in safe mode, safe mode with network support etc. Just use safe mode. If it goes directly to windows instead - shut it off and try again til u get the safe mode screen. The arrow keys control the selection to choose. When it starts in safe mode a black screen will usually appear with a bunch of writing, this is normal, after that it may "hang" for as long as 5 minutes, before coming up with a login screen. Sometimes hitting enter or escape will bring up the login screen faster. When you have a login screen, login and disable the updates using the software control options for the software that is trying to update. You might also go to control panel, administrator options, then services and disable automatic updates temporarily. When your pc starts in safe mode - it starts with minimal drivers and does not run updates- this allows you to change settings. You can then reboot normally and it should start properly without updating before starting.

Computer shut on and off repeats over and over again

When you say "funny noise", you could have a hard drive failing. On Dells, if you push F12 while booting, you should get a boot menu. Diagnostics should be in that menu, it's a Dell feature. Anyway go in there and run some tests and see if it reveals anything. If the tests pass cleanly, you may just have a Windows problem.

Shuts down it self

Sounds like you have a heat issue. Is the fans clear, or are they clogged with dust, hair, etc? Check the cpu heatsink as well for dust, etc. It sounds like the cpu thermostat is shutting the system down. Let me know
