This sounds like the brake is engaging to stop it from spinning. You can find the model number under the lid at the rear of the lit on the maching. I am assuming this is a top load model.
Its your control board most likely.Im sorry these machines were full of gremlins.service techs hate to work on them thats why its so much to fix them.sorry.
