One of your experts told me if I want to HACK, or make region free a Toshiba DVD Recorder/Combo Model# DVR-610 that all I have to do is hold down the STOP button for 5 seconds. Is this true? The reason why I ask is, because I, haven't purchased the unit yet, and I don't want to UNLESS you guys are sure. Can anyone help me with this?

is, because I, haven't purchased the unit yet, and I don't want to
UNLESS you guys are sure. Can anyone help me with this?

YOUR SOLUTION: " Yes u can reset the unit either of the 2 methods: 1) press STOP button for 5 secs or 2) press menu button for 5 seconds the above things will reset the unit. Thanks and rate the solution."

    UPDATE:
Last night I decided to try the above method on my Mom's Toshiba DVD Recorder (model # D-R4). I, pressed the MENU button, but nothing happened. However, when I pressed the STOP button for a about 5 seconds, the unit displays a "LOCK" message for a few seconds then disappears. When I press the STOP button again for another few seconds, I, get a "UNLOCK" message on the display unit, and the after a few seconds it disappears too. Anyways, I tried to play an out of region 1 DVD,(PAL-region 2) to be exact, but the TV screen displayed "UNAUTHORIZED DISK".

What I need is the EXACT step by step instructions on what to do when I get a "UNLOCK" display, i.e. what other button, if any I should press, and for how long; if the disc door should be open or not..ect.

Basically, I need someone to spoon feed me step by step as what to do from the start, and how, if anything should be set on the recorder. I'm most interested in the model I haven't purchased yet; that is the Toshiba DVR-610 Recorder/Combo, but if you have the STEP BY STEP UNLOCK REGION instructions for my Mom's Toshiba D-R4/DVD Recorder,(model # D-R4), I, would gratefully, gratefully, appreciate it :)

IS THERE ANYONE THAT CAN HELP ME WITH THIS?

  • Bob1182 Feb 26, 2009

What I've been told by your FIXYA experts, is that one can make the Toshiba DVR-610 DVD recorder/combo region free by resetting the unit, by holding down the STOP button for 5 seconds.

Well, like I've stated previously, I tried that procedure on my Mom's Toshiba D-R4 DVD recorder, and after playing with by pressing and depressing STOP button, I did get a "UNLOCK" message on the display unit, but only for a few seconds then it goes away, after that everything on the display unit turns to all zeros, (00000) like it's getting ready to start a movie, and that is it! Again, as I stated previously, I, put in a region 2, (PAL) to test it out, but all that happened is that the TV flashed a message that said, "UNAUTHORIZED DISC".

So AGAIN, I ask...What do I do after I get the "UNLOCK" message on the display unit?

Is there something else that I should do after getting that display message, or does just pressing down the STOP button, and NOTHING ELSE, ONLY work on the DVR-610 model?

I know I'm VERY close to making the D-R4 model region free, I just need to keep the machine in UNLOCK mode.

CAN SOMEONE HELP THAT KNOWS THESE THINGS? :)

P.S. If this doesn't work, I'm thinking of getting a video converter. I, was told by the seller that you can use this unit with ANY DVD player/recorder, and it will make ANY region DVD you have playable/viewable with whatever DVD player/recorder that your using.

Do you experts have any thoughts on that?

As for purchasing a code/region free recorder/combo...NO THANKS! BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, more than once. The models that were sent me would not play anything after a month or two. I, had both replaced, one I, got a refund on, and the other one was sent back to me, STILL broke, and was refused a refund.

STAY AWAY FROM MULTIMEDIA out of Chicago!

Besides, all region/code free places are WAY over priced, and the selection is limited.

Are Phillips and Toshiba the SAME company? And if both have the same model number,(DVR-610) will one solution work for the other?

  • Bob1182 Feb 26, 2009

Sorry manojro, my model # wasn't on the list.

  • Bob1182 Feb 26, 2009

Sorry Ekse, I'm looking to unlock/hack Toshiba DVR-610, NOT Philips DVR-610...Thanks anyway:)

You are wasting your time.
recode your dvd's not your player. if you reburn them you can change the region with a simple program available for free from any torrent site.
the lasers will be a particular region and not controlled by any software in the machine.

Hi there,

The Zenith player/recorder will be able to record to DVD from an external input such as a PVR. The most likely reasons you are unable to record successfully are:

1. The TV / DVR is not connected to the Zenith recorder correctly. You need a separate cable for recording. You cannot record using the cable that is connected for playback of DVD discs.
2. The TV / DVR does not have "VIDEO OUT" sockets
3. You have not selected the correct external input on the Zenith recorder

If you can let me know the brand and model number of your TV / DVR and how it is connected to the Zenith DVD recorder, I can let you know why it isn't working, how to make it work, and even draw you a setup diagram, if required. It's very difficult to give you the correct answer without these details.

You Zenith DVD recorder will record from the DVR - the real question is, can the DVR send video to the Zenith DVD recorder . . . ?

Regards,
BElectric

check the menu settings or (setup) on the dvr 4000 to see if it has options to enable or disable parental lock or to change region settings to region 1.

also the dvds you made are they +r or -r on what brand dvd record disc on dvd-r this may solve the problem but use a quality brand disc like memorex dvd-r it is compatible with many players and recorders also make sure the disc you made on the recorder were finalized.
