If lens is stuck out of position before you turn on, its a major repair job of lens assembly and motor. Not worth the trouble. Just buy a new digital camera Some cameras made by Sony had less lens troubles, such as DSC-p30 or p50.
You need a separate battery charger for this camera. It does not have a battery charger built into the camera itself and can not be recharged thru any cords connected directly to the camera. The USB cords only transfer the files to the computer, they don't recharge the camera.
Most digital cameras software require that the camera be in playback mode (mode for viewing photos) before the computer will recognize the camera.
If that is not the solution, be sure to go back and read your Sony User's Manual and see if you are overlooking something.
If you are unable to get the computer to recognize the camera you can always buy a card reader (about $20).
