Question about Gateway MX6453 Notebook

Static on laptop speakers and headphone jack

There is a static sound on both laptops speakers and headphone jack. Sound still works there is just a lot of static. This seems to worsen over time. The laptop is two years old. I want to know what part of the speaker system effects this. Or if anyone has an idea as to how to fix it. Would it be a case of a loose wire, water damage, rust? Yes there was a bit of water spilled on it once, computer had to be left to dry but everything worked well after. Could there be rust resulting from this? I hope it is a matter of a loose wire witch is easily fixed. I have not opened the laptop yet as I want more information before I do that.

I want to try to fix it myself. I am not very skilled in this, but with research and a soldering iron I have fixed handhelds, a tv and other small electronics so I hope I can fix this if it is not expensive.

Thanks for the instructions. I will check for updates to the sound card, and then check the connectors and clean the terminals. I'll get check back with updates.

I would use my service plan but it just ran out.

Hey,

I am armymason, I am here to help resolve this issue. I think looking at the connectors would be a great start. should be simple to get to just a few screws to get the keyboard off then the speakers. check the connectors use nail file to clean terminals. My other solution is to check for updates for the sound card. maybe OS updates have caused data lose to the speakers. I would say chalk it up to wear and tear but you stated it happens on the air buds too. Might also wasnt to check on Manufacturers site to see if they have a bios update too. By the way water can cause other issues other than rust. it could be arking between two terminals causing the crackle sounds.

Thanks,
ArmyMason

Try headphones. If there is no static in the headphones it is the speakers.

That's pretty normal with built in connectors. For a workaround grab a cheap USB sound card from eBay or somewhere else. It worked for me.

Getting static sound through speakers it only goes away when music plays but can still here it in the background could it be my sound card

it is a improper earthing of the pc (not likely) but definately a condensor leaky discharging while it self getting charged..its detected by seeing the amplifier and the condensors usually 100-1000 ufd.(electrolytic). one can see a buldge(if faulty) on the condensor(top) usually that area is flat.
leave a testimonial later.

Sound coming through Dynadock is all static with faint sounds?

I had the same problem. I went to the Toshiba sight and downliaded all the drivers for Windows 7. I loaded the new dirvers. The first time that I restarted the laptop I had the same result. I turned off the computer overnight. When I came into the office this morning and turned on the computer it resumed audio without the static that you would normally hear whether with system sounds or the media player. It absolutely has to do with the drivers since the headphone jack works (dynadock not in the loop). I would reccommmend not just restarting but turnung the Laptop off and restarting.

Sounds like the cords that are going into the PC/system have static. Remove the cords from the speakers and simply put your finger around the jacks to remove static. Push the cords and the jacks back in and switch on the speakers. Then twist the volume control, turning it up loud and then low, then loud and low again. That should cure the problem as it removes static that gets built up over time. Either that or your speakers could well be damaged.

Dell 610 lptop - haedphone not working,

First try uninstalling the sound drivers from the device manager, then reboot. It will find and reinstall them, then check Dell's support site for updated sound drivers. If you find updated drivers you will need to use the update button for the device in the device manager. If this doesn't work, then it may be a faulty headphone jack. The jack should override the speakers when the headphones are plugged into it. If you can still hear the speakers with the headphones plugged in then the jack is faulty and needs replaced. If the jack does override the speakers or if you get some static then it could be that the jack has come loose or has a loose or broken wire. The only other thing is try a different set of headphones, sometimes laptops get picky and one set will work and yet another set may not.
