if I was a betting may I would say that this is a small water heater, what is the temperature set on, as the pilot light will be lit once the temperature is reached, but until then the burners will be lit. I would move the temperature knob and listen to see if I hear the burners kick on. Hope this helps Tim

How to light pilot light

Your gas valve has 3 positions. "OFF", "PILOT" and "ON". Turn it to "PILOT" and push it down hard. Hold it 2-4 seconds and light the pilot assembly. Keep holding it for 10-15 seconds and slowly let it up. The pilot should stay lit.

Ive tried to ignite the hot water gas cylinder and im not how do i know if its even working.? Cause we cant see the pilot light.?

it will all depend on what brand the hot water service is
although you should be able to put the dial on pilot light setting which is normally light an * on the dial
hold the dial down whilst pressing the clicker (piezo ignitor) normally can take between 10-60 seconds then turn the dial clockwise to the on position and turn your temp gauge with numbers to around 4-5 and it should make a noise when the heater ignites !!!!!
see how you go

We have an older (22 years?) 'Insta-Flame (model HE30 TN) natural gas fireplace insert. The pilot light is out, as we painted to inside of the firebox. The instructions show to 1) turn the dial to 'off'',...

On some gas valves the pilot setting is on the same dial as pilot on and on .on others the pilot light has aseperate button on right side of control dial. If yours has this there will be a cut out on cotrol dial that must be aligned with button to allow it to be depressed to light pilot. If yours has this align control dial cutout with pilot button, depress button and light pilot, hold for about one min. and slowly release,if pilot light stays lit, turn down thermostat and rotate control dial normally to right . There should be arrows or marks on dial and gas valve to line up. If pilot light stays lit turn dial to next position and check to see that pilot is still lit. This should be on position, turn up thermostat and burner should light. If your dial has pilot light setting on it then rotate dial to each position, try to depress dial and when you have right one dial will depress allowing you to light pilot. Follow same procedure as above and you should be in business. Hope this helps.Thank you

Pilot LIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT OUT

The pilot light jet may have got a little bit of dirt or grit in it which is preventing it from keeping alight. If the pilot light has only a weak flame, the whoosh of the main burner igniting can quite often blow out the pilot. Try probing the jet with a fine piece of wire to see it the blockage can be dislodged. You may have to unscrew the jet to clear it by blowing air through it. Make sure gas is turned off first before removing any parts.

The pilot light also has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If pilot flame goes out for any reason, it shuts the gas off to the pilot jet to prevent unburned gas collecting and causing a safety hazard. The thermocouple is bypassed by a switch during the initial ignition and once the thermocouple warms up after a minute or two of holding in the bypass switch, it should maintain the pilot. If, after cleaning, the pilot light keeps going out, it would seem that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Im trying to figure out how to light my neighbors 7900 series gas furnace. Followed instructions pressing pilet light etc. Just cant figure where to ignite inside furnace door.

Hi, Just follow the pilot light tube back, the aluminum tube, back under to where it stops at the pilot burner. You may need to open the door to reach back there or you may have that piece of metal that you put the match in to reach back far enough to light it. Just turn the knob to pilot, and hold it down and you should be able to hear and smell the gas. Light the match and stick it along side of the pilot tube at the very end and it will light as long as you hold the knob down. After it lights hold it for about another minute and release it slowly. It should stay light. If not wait 5 minutes and try again. Very easy to do when you follow the tube that supplies gas back to the pilot, that's where you stick the match or lighter. Look back there with a good strong light and you can see where the tube stops. This is where the gas comes out. Please let me no, and don't forget to rate me as I know you will be kind. You will find it. If you can't get it, you can call out your local gas company and they will light it for free of charge, no cost to you.
Sincerely,

Not sure if this poarticular unit has it but try to clean the thermocouple off with either a wire brush or emery cloth. then attempt the re-lighting of the pilot.

Pilotlight on gas water heater went out. cant get cover off to light pilot light. Heater is three years old.

Some of the modern heaters have covers that are not removed to light the pilot. Look for an external "clicker" type spark ignitor.

Usiually a red button. Sometimes integrated into the gas valves on/off switch.
