Question about Sanyo DS31590 31" TV

Sanyo 31'' Standard Def CRT TV

I fell asleep last night watching TV. When I woke up this morning, the picture was black except for a thin line across the center of the screen. This TV is over 5 years old, but I have never had any kind of problem with it whatsoever. Any idea what has happened and about what it would cost to repair?

Thanks for responding. Yes, I have the model number correct. I'm fairly competent with a solder gun and I'm not afraid to fix this one on my own. Does an IC really just work one minute and **** out the next?

I have the same problem with my TV. It did this last night, and would sometimes flip back to a normal picture, but now it seems stuck on the thin line. The light is so intense coming from the line, I'm afraid to let my 5-month-old daughter look at it when I'm trying to figure out what's wrong.

This is a vertical problem that can be as simple as poor connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. If you can solder, you should be able to fix this yourself. Realize that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present inside hte set even when unplugged. If you wish to attempt this repair, please update this and confirm your model number as DS31590 and I'll supply additional details and instructions.

I turned my television on then it made the tv frame made a noise!and now the screen is black except for this thin line across the middle of the screen which is display the picture

Most likely the vertical oscillator circuit has failed. As CRT televisions have gone the way of the dinosaur, my advice to you is to give a fond adieu and invest in a new TV.

SanyoTV-blk screen w/thin line of light across screen great sound

Your Vertical Amp is probably Blown (bad) , but before you change that check all capacitors around the vertical amp IC and / or resolder resistors and diodes around vertical amplifier.
And NO it is NOT the Picture Tube
Good Luck

Tv not working

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
