I have a Hp Pavilion dv4000 series. Only some of the key's on the keyboard doesn't work. The T,B,N and F8 keys don't work. I have tried to reinstall the operating system and can not do so because it asks me to agree and press F8 which I cannot do and then I tried something else and asked for the key code and it was one of the letter that doesn't work. Can you help me with this problem. I was going to try and go out and buy a usb keyboard but would like to see if I can resolve the problem first if some one could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

My name is ArmyMason, here is a link for you to purchase a new keyboard from. ($24.88) http://www.papatek.com/HP-Keyboard/HP-Pavilion-DV4000-keyboard.html Only other solution to this is to try and reseat the ribbon cable into the motherboard and see if that resolves the issue.

Try the system restore option. If you cant access it in Windows then try it in safe mode. Reboot the PC.While in the boot mode hold down f8 key. This will give a menu with "Safe mode" option. Choose safe mode, hit enter let it load. While in safe mode go to system restore and then chose a date prior to the problem.
Its usually the Fn key (bottom left) and a function key on the top line like F1 to F12 the brightness is the picture of the sun. I couldnt find any specific information on your model but most HP's are the same.
Reinstall all drivers for your laptop from the HP.Com website. If the function keys still don't work, you may have a defective keyboard.
Turn the laptop off, then take the laptop keyboard off (usually takes 1 screw - bottom of case, and a few sliders, top of keyboard). And then there will be a couple of thin cables which are connected to the motherboard. There is a sliding connector which holds these on. Push this up, slide the cable in, puch it back down. Do for both cables if you have 2 (keyboard and tracking pad/pointing stick). Reinstall keyboard and try it out.
If that doesn't fix it, replace the keyboard with one from ebay.
Press down the shift key then press the 4 key, if this does not work and comes back with the $ sign then you may need to change your keyboard layout settings. You can do this by going to control panel>regional and language options>keyboards and languages and change the layout to the relevant option to enable the euro sign.
