Re: No picture, only a horizontal line across the screen
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Your described problem indicates failure at the vertical deflection circuitry. Almost always, this would be a defective vertical IC. In some instances, this could also be caused by the absence of Vcc (supply voltage) to the said IC. This is a relatively easy/quick repair. What would be more challenging is identifying the IC, removing it, and replacing. Replacement would be readily available from most electronics part stores including Radio Shack.

At first the picture is ok, and then distorted with horizontal lines i thinks. If the horzontal lines are parellel acros the screen, with an inch apart across the whole screen, your tv needs screen adjustments. Screen voltage may be high. look into the crt base also. Change it first. These also not resolve the problem, LOT may be faulty, with respect to screen focus pack. May need replacement. Try first setting screen voltage to a lower settings and observe.
it could be an electrolytic capacitor or the vertical output I.C. in the vertical circuitry,if you remove the rear cover tap on the board in different places and see if the picture fills out or atleast jitters like it might fill out, then it could be just a cold solder joint, then remove the main board and resolder all joints and this should repair the condition you have
vertical output ic needs to be resoldered. careful leaving that bright line displayed on the screen as this will cause a permanent phosphor burn into the tube. this can not be corrected once burned unless you replace the tube. mch
sound like the screen control on the flyback is set just a little too high. the flyback has the red wire attached to the tube. the flyback has 2 small adjustable controls. if you look close enough 1 is marked focus & on is screen. turn the screen slightly to the left & look at your picture. the screen is like a master brightness & if it's up too high you will see what is called retrace lines.
