Hi I have Clarion DB185Mp car stereo I get "amp ground" error code when volume control is turned, no sound at all but lights, clock etc work fine. Unit is wired with factory harness and no external amp connected. Does this code mean unit is damaged? Unit is grounded to chassis @ factory harness. Thanks

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Check the speaker wires of the Clarion unit with an continuity tester/ohmmeter or a DVM/VOM. None of the speaker wires should read 0 ohms to ground with or without speakers connected.

Pls post back results/updates. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Pls confirm that the following wires are not grounded, exposed:

    • blue/white stripe = amp turn on lead

    • brown = phone mute lead

    • blue = power antenna lead
Additionally, verify that the wires from the Clarion connects as below indicated in the factory harness:

    • Yellow is constant 12V

    • Red is ACC

    • Black is ground

    • Purple rear right +

    • Purple black rear right -

    • Green rear left +

    • Green black rear right -

    • White front left +

    • White black front left -

    • Gray front right +

    • Gray black front right -

    • and that no wire would read 0 ohms to GND other than the black.
You may also want to add an extra ground strap from the body of the Clarion DB185MP to the firewall or metal brackets under the dash.

Run a ground wire from the ground on the back of the unit to the screw on the power plugin.... that should take care of the ground issue

I have a clarion m 309 radio and I'm trying to hook up a fusion FM 402 amp for a sub woofer. I had all speakers playing but, I could not control the volume of the sub with the radio. I need to know...

Amps usually receive their signal through RCA wires. Your radio should have one pair of RCA outputs on the back. (red and white) You will adjust your subwoofer volume by adjusting the gains on the amplifer (little knob next to the RCA inputs of the amp), then you can turn up the bass on your radio.

Clarion cz200 turns on but produces no sound. I checked all the speakers with a d battery, and they're fine. None of the wires are grounded (besides ground). I don't have an amp (no sub) and the car...

If the speakers aren't blown, and all of your wiring is correct (have you checked to make sure you have the right input selected?), you probably have a blown op amp in your unit. The good news is that it is not too expensive to replace. Good luck!

red=12 volt switched power source
yellow=12 volt constant power source (direct to battery)
black=chassis ground
orange/white=illumination (switched source, not to head light switch)
blue/white=amp turn on lead (to remote turn on lead of amp)

My peavey 218 subs are crarking or sound dissorted. How can I check them out

Hello Sir, Hi, distorted sound can be caused by several factors, one would be that the source, overdrives the power amps. You need to lessen the signal, if the source has a volume control set it to half. Another is the power amp itself is defective, The likely culprit it the Integrated power amp. this should be checked by a technician. and lastly the loudspeakers, to test just simply swap the other channel driver unit to the questionable one. check If the sound returns to normal. Several factors also are low voltage supply, leaking capacitors. there are no user serviceable parts here.

No power in my clarion i check the fuse and the wires is ok

Check your remote wire. (should be a small blue one in between power and ground) You can also take a voltage meter to check that your CD player is sending the remote signal down the wire when it powers on. Make sure your ground wire is securely grounded to a good source. Make sure its not on a painted area, etc. Find a good bolt on the frame or body. If none of this helps, you can open the amp and look for bulged capacitors on the circuit board.

Insignia NS-C5112 manuel. new sub getting too much sound through rca wires when turned up. sub amp shuts down. need to tune down audio in rca cables

does your new sub have a volume or gain control? If your getting the signal source from the line outs, then the volume level there is constant. You need to set it up so that it can be controlled by the main volume control.Or you might need a control pre-amplifier before your sub

I need to install a max385vd in a 2002 pord f-350, do i need an install kit?

Regardless of whether this is an amp or a head unit, an install kit is either very helpful or necessary. If it's an amp, you'll need it for sure - you can't power an amp with 18 gauge factory power wiring like a head unit can use. You need to get at least 10 gauge power and ground wire, 18 gauge remote turn-on wire, and RCA patch cables to conduct the sound. If you have a factory head unit, you'll also need a line-level adapter to give you a source for the RCA patch cables.

If this is a head unit, you'll need the adapter harness to plug your existing stereo harnesses into the new head unit. It makes it simple - the wires on the new head unit are color-coded for what they do, and the adapter harness is identically coded. Match the colors, then plug it in. You may also need an antenna wire adapter (some cars require this).
