Question about D-Link Xtreme N DIR-655 Wireless Router

How do I install the D-Link X-treme N router for Mac OS X

The cd is incompatible with Macs. I can plug the router in, but what else do I have to do. The instructions say to read the directions for Macs and Linux, but they are not very straightforward. Can you tell me what I need to do to use this router?

Before you Begin
Installation
This section will walk you through the installation process. Placement of the router is very important. Do not place the router in an enclosed area such as a closet, cabinet, or in the attic or garage.
Please configure the router with the computer that was last connected directly to your modem. Also, you can only use the Ethernet port on your modem. If you were using the USB connection before using the router, then you must turn off your modem, disconnect the USB cable and connect an Ethernet cable to the Internet port on the router, and then turn the modem back on. In some cases, you may need to call your ISP to change connection types (USB to Ethernet).
If you have DSL and are connecting via PPPoE, make sure you disable or uninstall any PPPoE software such as WinPoet, Broadjump, or Enternet 300 from your computer or you will not be able to connect to the Internet.

You should not need to install anything. just reset your router with the little button right next to where you plug the power adapter. This should reset the device to simple manufacture default setup with no WEB security then go to your mac and turn your mac plug it in to your router with ethernet wire and enable local Area network and disable wireless internet connection. When you are connected with wire, To secure your network first you need to find your ip address it is usually 192.168.0.1 but sometimes it might be differant Open your system preference, and then click on network. This will take you to your active connection. From here you want to Lookunder the word status. Here you will find your IP Address.
Depending on your router settings yo may get a different IP address each time you connect. So check this before relying on it to stay the same
Type in that ip address on your internet browser and enter it should go to a log in screen to your router's hosting To access the configuration utility, open a web-browser such as Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).
You may also connect using the NetBIOS name in the address bar (http://dlinkrouter).
Select Admin from the drop-down menu and then enter your password. Leave the password blank by default. once you connected enable wireless access and configure a web or Wpa secured connection and generate the web key aftre the web key generated look at the one is checked on the right side which is usually the first one wire that key down and do not loose it change your connection name change the log in name and password if you want save these settings and log off. go back to your mac and disable local area connection and re enable wireless internet connection unplug the ethernet cable and search for your connection you just named. type the web key when it is asked and save the connection after connection astablished. And you are done.

I know it looks complicated but it realy is wery simple once you done it couple of times it will be easier. I do it all the time. Also you realy don't need the extra software to use the wireless internet and it will take up space on your computer.

Uninstall all your drivers (and delete the preferences) and download the Mac drivers from this link. The drivers that came with your printer were developed before Snow Leopard came out.

Can not Connect Dlink to old Apple

I had this problem it turns out the password format is a standard 13 charactors, if yours is shorter the computer auto fills the rest, different manufacturers use different charactors. My workround was to add extra "a"s to make 13 in total on the router, match the computers on the network and off you go.

Got a mac osx version 10.3.9 & samsung NV3 sortware won't work

Hi Andy
Why bother? You're using a Mac, use the Macs own software.
Just plug the camera in to the computer and watch what happens.

Wont install on Mac i use leopard and it states it needs classic envinroment

"In any case, you will not be able to use the Classic Environment in any OS with your MacBook Pro. The Classic Environment functions only on PowerPC-based Macs, of which the MacBook Pro (and all other currently sold Macs) is not. Mac OS 9 was never designed for Intel Macs, and cannot run on them without full PowerPC hardware emulation."

Hope it helps

Folder with blinking question mark in it after start-up

Folder with a blinking question mark means a missing system folder, in other words there isn't an OS installed. To fix this you need to boot from the OS X installer CD. With the OS X installer CD in the drive, hold down the C key on your keyboard when you start your mac. This tells the mac to boot from the optical drive (i.e. CD drive) and load the OS X installer. From there just follow the onscreen instructions to install OS X.
Also, you should be aware that the ibook is not compatible with Windows XP. Only the newer “intel macs” of the past few years are compatible with XP. Your mac predates Apple's transition to intel processors and Windows XP compatibility on the mac platform by a few years. This is why your Windows XP CD didn't load on it. The ibook is Mac OS X only.
It only runs on Mac OS X however it is compatible with newer versions of the OS. 10.2 jaguar is kind of old and a little buggy. You may want to consider installing 10.4 Tiger for improved stability and performance. Avoid the newest version (10.5 Leopard) as it is geared towards newer and faster machines.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your mac

Installing wireless g router on macs

Router setup
You do not have to use the cd.
Shutdown your Mac. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your Mac. The Mac should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider.

After you get the Internet to work via the Lan (wired to the Mac) you can disconnect the network cable and use the Aiport to go wireless.

I work for kodak and this is actually a very easy fix.
The MAC OS 10.4.11 won't install off the cd only the website.
The cd sees that the OS is 10.4.1 not 10.4.11 just a glitch and the fix is installing from the website.

And no you need at least 10.4.8 to run the kodak printer on macs.
