Laptop screen turns white

I have a compaq presario x6000 laptop. It seems like a lot of games I try to play, even though I met the specs for them, make my sceen turn completely white. I then have to manually restart it because it freezes. Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

You can put your laptop on top of a icepack, cause your Graphics card is probably getting to hot. Thats why your screen turns white(probably only when gaming).
It is likely one of your fans is broken

I have a compaq presario x6000. every time i place the laptop on my bed and turn it on it cuts off within 5 minutes. but when I place it on a desk and turn it on it does not cut off. do not understand why...

The reason is because when the laptop is placed on the bed the cooling vents are blocked and the CPU overheats and shuts down. When the laptop os placed on a flat surface there is sufficient clearance between the bottom of the laptop and the flat surface of the desk to provide sufficient air circulation.
If you wish to use the laptop in bed then place the laptop on a flat surface and not let the bed clothes cover the laptop's cooling vents.

My compaq presario is not charging and I bought a new charger for it and it still wont stay on for longer than a min it just cuts off if I fiddle with the power cord a little the screen changes from a dim...

common problem, power cord gets pulled on accidently, causes plug inside computer to pull loose from the motherboard.will need to disassemble, then usually just touching the connections with a soldering iron to remelt them is enough to fix it,leave this to qualified tech.or if under warranty then send for repair hope this helps ,aloha from maui todd0708

Compaq Presario Laptop powers on but turns off in less than a second

Before I can help you ,I need the model number or the "service tag" number off the bottom of the computer.
Whenever you ask a tech question you must always begin with a model number / part number, etc. HP makes hundreds of different model Presario Laptops and each has it's own quirks. Only with a model number can an accurate diagnoses be made.

Boot problems

When you boot up your notebook, keep pressing F8; this will take you into safe mode. Look down the list for 'LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION', and highlight and press enter. You notebook will then re-boot and hopefully start as normal, if not come back to this post.
