No sound device and yellow question mark by multimedia audio controller

Kristilyn,
You will need to download and reinstall the sound drivers into the system or use the Dell Drivers disk that was shipped with your computer to install. You can download the driver from the link below.

How do i get srs audio sandbox to work on my pc? win7 64-bit

if you mean audio soundbox
click start right click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to sound and video game controllers if you see a yellow question/exclamation mark or a red X the driver will need to

click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices right click on your speaker select configure speakers

right click on the speaker icon in the bottom taskbar you will see an array of options select playback devices make sure it has a green tick and the correct speakers are selected
be updated if you computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it although once speakers are connected widows 7 should automatically update the drivers

click start control panel hardware and sound manage audio devices playback you might have to set a default go for via high definition audio then right click on speaker

you might have to configure them then select properties you will see tabs general level in this tab make sure your settings are loud enough also enhancements and advanced from the drop down

list in the advanced tab select dvd quality or another then apply

hope it helps

Unable to access sound. I do not know what to do. It is a rental so I do not intend to buy but I would suggest to them. Thanks

Tell them to download, AND install, the proper Audio Driver, from the HP Support website.

Look at the back of the computer tower, or up on the side/top, for the white Service Tag.
Look for the Product Number. (To the right of P/N)

Go to HP Support, enter the Product Number. Then go to Drivers and Downloads on that computer's main page.

Look at the Audio driver/s.

1) IF more than one audio driver is listed on the driver download page, they need to go to Device Manager, and see what audio device manufacturer is listed.

Then match the audio device name to the audio driver name.

(Examples; RealTek, Creative, Intel, Conexant, and so on)

[ Device Manager:

WinXP:
Left-click on Start > Right-click on My Computer > Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list > Left-click on the Hardware tab >
Left-click on Device Manager.

Win Vista and Win7:
Left-click on the Windows start button > Right-click on Computer > Left-click on Properties > Left-click on the Hardware tab > Left-click on Device Manager.

Click on the + sign to the left of Sound, video and game controllers.
In the list; do you see Realtek, or Creative, or Conexant, or Intel, listed?
Match the name up to the audio driver listed in HP Support ]

2) They also need to match the Operating System.

If the computer has Windows XP on it, (Any version, Home or Pro),
they need to download, AND install the audio driver for WinXP.

Same for Vista, and Win7.

One more variable to look at with the Operating System.
See what bit version it is.
Is it 32-bit, or 64-bit?

Need THE appropriate audio driver.

However, look close. Some drivers will work with both a 32-bit O/S, and a 64-bit O/S.
(O/S = Operating System )

A lot of times the file name does not list what Operating System, and bit version, it is for.

If you click on Download, a small window will come up on the right.
In the heading is a basic description of the file.

XPx86 means it's for a Windows XP operating system, that is 32-bit.
XPx64 means it is for a Windows XP operating system, that is 64-bit.

Vista x86? Vista 32-bit
Vista x64? Vista 64-bit

Same with Win7.

An example;

1) I have looked in Device Manager, and see the name Conexant listed in the list under Sound, video, and game controllers.

I know now that I am looking first of all, for an audio driver that has the name Conexant, in it.

2) I know that the computer has the Windows Vista operating system.

If I Left-click on the Windows start button, Right-click on Computer, then Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list, the System Properties window will state what bit the O/S is.

If it is a 64-bit O/S this will be stated.

If it is a 32-bit O/S this may not be stated. It is assumed unless 64-bit is stated, the O/S is a 32-bit operating system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/32-bit_application

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit

64-bit is not stated. (x86 is 32-bit)
I now know the operating system is 32-bit.

I look through the audio files listed for a Conexant audio driver, that is for Windows Vista, and 32-bit. (x86)

Also; if there are audio drivers that match, but one has a newer date, use the one with the newer date.

If it is a rental computer, the rental company is the Administrator, and is the only one who can download, AND install, the audio driver.

IF, downloading AND installing the audio driver does NOT repair the audio problem, then the Integrated Audio is bad.

Another term used for Integrated Audio is OnBoard Audio.
ON the motherBOARD.
The audio chipset is soldered TO the motherboard.

This means the audio chipset soldered to the motherboard is bad.
Repair?
Install a sound card. (PCI version)

For additional questions please post in a Comment.
To have me clarify/explain anything I have stated above, please post in a Comment.

[ Also include the computer manufacturer name, { Compaq? I do not want to assume }, and the Model Number. (Product Number for Compaq and HP )

It's in the white Service Tag on the back, or upper side, of a desktop computer tower.
Bottom of a laptop.
P/N = Product Number ]

I am unablem to use the mic for the internet chat!!!!

Hi,

First of all find the latest version of the audio driver which is compatible to vista, as most of the drivers that are shipped with sound-card or motherboard cd contain drivers which have support for only until windows Xp.

So it is strongly recommended to download the latest audio driver from the internet for your sound-card or on board audio chipset. Install the vista compatible audio driver (sound driver) for your sound-card or motherboard audio. After this re-start your computer. Half of the work is done.

Now plug in the microphone in your sound-card / motherboard audio pin (generally pink in color for microphone).

After this go to control panel > sound and audio device settings. Check whether the microphone is detected by Vista or not. If not, check whether you have selected the frontal microphone or rear, as vista recognizes them separately unlike windows Xp. Correct the configuration of front/rear mic if needed.

Where do i find the volume icon?? it's lost somewhere and can't hear any volume?

Try this:

Go to click on "Start."
Go to "Control Panel."
If you're using XP, go to "Sound."
If you're using Vista/7, got to "Hardware and Sound."

If everything is grayed out on the sound control applet, it is possible that the hardware is disabled or the drivers for the audio device is not installed.

To check on the status of the hardware device:

Click on "Start."
If you have XP, click on "Run." type the command devmgmt.msc
If you have Vista/7, on the search bar, type Device Manager, then click on the first result.
It will display the Device Manager which allows you to check the status of the devices installed on your computer
Go to "Sound." Click on the "+" sign. Check if there are any devices with a red X or a yellow exclamation point.

If there is a device under "Other Devices" that says "Audio Controller," it means that the drivers for the device is not installed. If this happens, try looking up the specifications of your computer online to check for the specific audio device that you have and then download the drivers online.

Hope this helps! :D

I ve just bought lexmark z2300 printer, how do i connect it to my laptop which is on wireless broadband with perlico? ta caroline.

You need to connect the printer with an extra cable which can join it through its 25 pin parallel cable. That cable then with USB end connect with the Laptop. and its drivers can be automatically detect by your Vista system.
For Vista 64-bit, the driver for printer and cable should be digitally signed.
Otherwise you need this method for Driver Installation in Windows Vista 64-bit:
The 64-bit version of Windows Vista is the first version of Windows that will only allow signed drivers and this restriction is built-in. For most cable drivers are unsigned and we request you to follow some prerequisites before installing the driver.
Preparing Vista 64-bit for Driver installation:
  • Using the F8 option: Press F8 key on your keyboard while booting your PC. You will get into “Advanced Boot Options”. Select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”
  • An F8 Advanced Boot Option introduced with Windows Vista—“Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”—is available to disable the kernel-signing enforcement only for the current boot session. This setting does not persist across boot sessions.
  • Note: Make sure to use F8 option every time you boot/reboot your PC before start working with MCS77XX.
  • Make sure that the User installing the driver must be a member of the Administrator group on the system.
And for printer driver if you dont have CD then go through this link and follow the steps:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r1133275-drivers_installation_problem

Let me know if you need furhter assistance, I will help you to run your Printer with Laptop.

Ellin
