Question about Microsoft EXCEL 2004 for Mac

1 Answer

I made the following work -- By trial and error -- Why should it be so hard to solve such a simple problem =IF(OR(F7="",H7=""),"",(H7-F7))

If neither F7 or H7 is blank/empty I needed to get the difference between H7 & F7.

I have not been able to find any documentation for setting up such an IF/OR function.  Even though it is very useful.

If data is available for both G7 & H7, I compute the difference.  Otherwise I shoot a BLANK.

I use this to tally points for the year for NASCAR races. I hate to admit that my sister won last year -- One deluxe dinner in Hilo, Hawaii.

Formula :
=If (F7<>"", (IF (H7<>"",H7-F7,"")),"")

Sometimes you need to use the opposite comparison, like instead of being equal to "" try to compare it if it's not equal to "". The formula above should work with no problem. Good luck :)

Using excel to solve problem by trial and error method

In A1, put a random value of d as 0.1. Then in B1, put your equation 5*d^4 - 10.29*d^(-1.333), wherein refer d as A1. Then use goal seek function on Tools Menu. First "Set cell" as B1, "To value" as 0.124 and "By Changing Cell" as A1. Excel will do the Trial & Error and will give you the answer in Cell A1.

Excel2004 MAC

Not familiar with Mac but if you simply copy it (the data)and paste to a new spreadsheet that might work. In windows you can unprotect another option...assuming you can't do that in Mac would be to export it to it and the send it back to Mac. Suggest you check your help dialogues as well...should not be an insurmountable problem. Hope this helps...Tango.
