You can buy an add-on Firewire (IEEE 1394) card in one of the two PCI expansion slots. That would add the firewire port on the back of the computer.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question. You asked if you can add firewire and if so how. I said yes and told you how. As for configuring the card, you just plug it into the PCI slot. Am I still missing something? Are you saying that the case has a firewire jack in the front and you want to use that?

I'm guessing that your new case has a firewire jack port and you wondered if you could connect it to this motherboard. If that's the question, then the answer is no - your motherboard does not support firwire. Sorry I mised what you were asking the first time around.

I need to connect a Sony trv950 camcorder to Adobe cs4, it only accepts firewire to capture video. and the emachine only has usb ports

Hello,
You can buy a PCI card for firewire and put it inside your PC case in an empty PCI slot. They are pretty cheap. In Canada / USA you can get them for about $30 from your local computer store, best buy etc..
Here is a link to best buy USA: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex%26%23153%3B+-+3-Port+FireWire/IEEE+1394+PCI+Card/6307392.p?id=1074787927900&skuId=6307392&st=firewire%20pci&cp=1&lp=1

Hi, i want to no, what is 1394 on motherboard and if the usb cable in the front write 1394, i install it like a regular usb cable?????

It is Firewire port/ Interface. The IEEE 1394 interface is a serial bus interface standard for high-speed communications and real-time data transfer, frequently used by personal computers, as well as in digital audio, digital video applications etc. The interface is also known by the brand names of FireWire (Apple), i.LINK (Sony), and Lynx (Texas Instruments). This is not as widely used.It works just like USB but it is meant for connecting Firewire capable devices. If you have any firewire capable device (like video camera)and firewire cable, you can connect the device to your PC and use it for high speed data transfer.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Here a dumb question; I just got a new ACER M3300 Desktop, what's the odd shaped socket marked 1934? I know what everything else is but not that. Thanks J

Not a dumb question its an IEEE device known as a Firewire port and is used to connect video cameras and the like to download video files quickly (although there are faster ways now)

FoxConn 661MO3-G-6EL is suuposed to have 2 1394 Firewire ports installed, 1 in the rear panel and 1 accessible on the board from a front bus connector, but mine seems to be msssing these, whcih does not...

Return the motherboard to the place where you bought it, and have them explain the differences that you have observed.

Are there any wires running from the FireWire port on the front of your computer's case to any connector on your motherboard?

No 1394 port located on MoBo as manual indicates. Is it mislabeled?

Location firewire input port

There isn't one on the back panel. You must connect the USB/1394 bracket that's included with the board to an empty slot on the rear of the computer and hook up its connectors INSIDE the computer to the appropriate headers on the motherboard: the purple firewire connector would connect to the purple header (DUH!) on the RIGHT in the pic below, it's a DOUBLE firewire header and it's the only place this bracket will fit. The yellow USB connector would go to any open USB header on the board (guess what color...) Very simple, really.

Optionally if your computer case has a built-in firewire port on the FRONT panel, as most do nowadays, you can connect that to the appropriate header on the board using the already-installed cable that's connected to that front firewire port (connect this one to the purple header on the LEFT, it's just a SINGLE firewire port.)
However, this header's pins will NOT match up properly with almost all case's front-panel firewire connectors. You would most likely have to switch around 2 or 3 of the little wires that go into the connector so that it matches the motherboard's pin-out.

It's clearly labled in the manual for the board, and isn't really all that difficult to switch the wires around, but I would recommend just going with the first option and connect the included bracket to the back since it was designed to go with this board and requires no modification.
