Question about Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Calculator

TI 83 Plus won't turn on after battery change

I changed the batteries in my TI 83 and when I went to turn it on, the entire screen was black. I tried leaving them out for a few hours, doing a few different resets, and now, since I replaced the back up battery too, it doesn't show any signs of life when I turn it on. I know the batteries work since I plugged them into another TI 83 (great, I have two and neither works!) but I can't get any life out of this one. Any help would be fabulous!

I was having the same problem...I found the info below on another blog and it helped me fix my calculator problem. Take out all the batteries, hold the DEL button and put the batteries back in (keep holding the DEL button until all batteries are put back in). This will restart the calculator and restore it to its default settings...but it makes it work again!

"Reflashing the OS is probably the thing to do now. I think there's some trick that throws the calc into OS receiving mode. Hold down DEL while putting the batteries in? I don't remember if that's it. Go to 1-800-TI-CARES/ti-cares@ti.com if you need specifics on getting the calc to take an OS upload given the state it's in."

Adjust the contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the down-arrow key to lighten the screen. If you go too far, press and release the 2ND key, then press and hold the up-arrow key.

My ti-83 wont turn on. I changed all the batteries including the back up. Before i changed the back up i put in 4 new AAA batteries and then the screen went black. I tried adjusting the contrast but it...

I am sorry that I could not respond earlier. I am not sure of this but I think you can remove the back up battery and also the main battery, check the cells to see if there was a drain on the new cells , if so there is a short in the unit. If not keep aside for few hours and then replace the back up and then the main cells.
If there is no display there is some issue on the motherboard and might need a consensus.

Entire battery replace but still wont turn on

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

The calculator will not turn on a TI 83 plus, batteries changed

You say you changed the batteries. Did you also change the back up battery? It's located in a little door with a screw right above the AAA batteries.

My students have come to me many times and have said that their calculator will not turn on. Most times it is that the contrast on the screen has been turned down and the calculator is turning on but the screen is too dim to see that it's on.

To check your contrast, turn the calculator on, press the 2nd key and the up arrow. This is how you darken the screen. You lighten the screen the same way but you use the down arrow instead.
