Installing new Acer Aspire 3200LCi Hard drive

I have repeatedly attempted to install a new 40GB hard drive into my Acer Aspire 3200 LCi. The Bios seems to not recognize it at all and do not know what to try next.

When i turn my acer aspire one d255 netbook on it says no bootable device -- please restart system i need help please

Hi
It looks as though the laptop is not recognising the hard drive, there is no hard drive fitted or there is a hard drive but the OS boot record has been wiped ( I know this sounds obvious but some people buy these 2nd hand only to find the hard drive was removed)

You need to check the hard drive is present by booting to the bios screen it should "see" the hard drive attached. If it is present, then you have a problem with the OS or a damaged hard drive. I think its DEL or F2 or F10 to access the bios, not certain.

At this point, you need to attempt to reinstall the OS, as this does not have an optical drive, you will need to obtain a USB Optical drive, go into the bios and see that it is recognised as a boot device. Do not worry about setting the boot order, the Bios will locate the rom as a boot device.

Attempt a start up repair, ie: wait until the installer looks for a previous installation of windows (if one exists) then allow it to install a repair installation. If it does NOT find this, you will need to doa full install. If at this point you have files you need recovering, a strip down of the netbook and removal of the hard drive will be necessary. You simply then get someone with a computer to jumper your hard drive as a slave and recover the files you need, as a full install requires the hard drive to be fully wiped.

Replace the hard drive after you have done this and proceed with the full reinstall

You can use a USB boot device, but to do this you will need to have access to another computer to make the boot installer:

Have reached the limits for my hard drive Can I fit a larger hard drive other than an external unit

Yes you could, but check your specificaion to see what the maximum size hard drive the BIOS in your laptop can support.
By installing a new hard drive, you need to install Windows on this hard drive, together with the Acer Aspire's device drivers, your programs and your data. This is a lot of work and time.
If it was me I would add an external USB hard drive and copy my data to this external hard drive.

The advantages of this method besides not having to re-build your laptop, you can exchange data between computers without the need to take along your laptop, you only need to take your external USB hard drive.

Hi i m hems i m upgrading hard disk on my ( acer aspire 1641nwlmi ) laptop hard disk is 160 gb but it's not detecting my new hard disk , my new hard is ok but i have quistion 160 gb is supporting my laptop...

The Aspire 1641 is supplied with a 80Gb hard drive. If the new 160Gb hard drive is not detected in the BIOS then the BIOS cannot support this size hard drive.
Check your manual/specification to see the maximum size hard drive it can support.
You can install the 160Gb hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

Removing Vista and installing windows xp

Before you attempt it, make a couple of changes in the BIOS to hopefully work around a few problems that might crop up.

"BIOS setup (f2) and set the hard drive to ATA compatible."
I would go ahead and disable everything in the boot heading besides the DVD/CD.
You also need to disable caching module before you change the drive SATA settings.

My acer aspire when start up says no operating system what can i do I don't have any disk for my laptop

Can you go into your BIOS and see if it lists your hard drive? It looks like it is not finding your hard drive for some reason, could be a bad boot sector or bad connection. Unscrew the hard drive and re-seat it into its connector. You may also try pressing ALT+F10 (repeatedly) as soon as you power it on which should get you to the Acer Recovery Console to re-install Windows.

Acer aspire one hard disk cannot read

Check the BIOS configuration for the hard disk, if the BIOS does not detect the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty or the disk controller is faulty.
To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. This computer should detect the hard drive as an external disk drive. If this computer cannot detect it and/or cannot open the folders etc. the the hard drive is faulty.
Then you need to install a new hard drive in the Acer and install Windows, the device drivers and your programs to get the laptop operational again.

Acer 3680. only half of the harddrive works.

check it on the bios the size of your hard disk, if its 80 gb then go to the control panel after booting open the administrative tools, open computer management, then select disk management, check the hard disk there, if there is an unpartitioned space , then convert it to the partioned space
