there is a specific conflict between a pc and hdmi-dvi and producing audio. you may want to research a special dvd-hdmi cable that vizio sells, check your users manual. if you still get the same issue be sure the specs are correct and make sure your tv is capable of this type of connection, if you still can not get it, you may need to replace the main board in the unit.
what are your inputs for the tv? is it from a cable box and connects with a coax cable. ? if you are using hdmi make sure you select auto out as digital from cable box and input from the tv as that audio in the mnu settings also. if you are using old school rca jacks (red yellow white make sure there in tight. if you are using component red blue green then you still need an audio either optical or the rca red and yellow from whatever your connecting to your tv. let me know if this solves your problem
Likely standard VGA ... unless you have an HD card in your computer ... I got one for mine in order to play blu ray after I bought a blu ray drive for my computer. In that case I needed an HDMI cable. HDMI passes both the video and the audio, otherwise you need to connect also a stereo audio cable between your sound card output and the tv input, close to the computer VGA connection.
how do you have your tv hooked to your digital source? hdmi and coax should carry sound as well as video, but if you are connected via component cables, then seperate audio (red and white) cables are needed for sound.
1. I would first make sure that correct "INPUT" setting is registered. 2. Try a different input source such as VCR, DVD or CD. 3. Connect a pair of audio RCA cable to all the VIZIO set's audio inputs one at a time and touch the center tip while the set is powered ON and the input is set to the corresponding seting. If audio circuit is OK you should hear a hum with at least one of the input settings.. 4. If still no audio, then it maybe the audio circuit board needs to be checked.
Depending on the year of your model of VIZIO your digital optical output may be tied to the DTV input only. Meaning the only time you will have audio coming out of the digital optical output is when your using the tuner and your on a digital channel. If your television is newer and the digital optical output is in white on the back of the television than it is tied to HDMI and the DTV Tuner and you will pass audio through the digital optical output when using HDMI or the Digital Tuner.
Now to get connect the HT: Normally you would run a digital optical cable from the source device to the home theatre system. Meaning if it was a PS3 you would run a optical cable from the Digital Out on the back of the PS3 to the Digital In on the Home Theatre receiver. If it was a DVD player than you would run the optical cable from the DVD player to the HT receiver. If you have a newer VIZIO and the optical output is in white and not black than you can run HDMI from the PS3 to the VIZIO and then run a optical cable from the VIZIO to the Home theater receiver.
You will have to adjust the audio setting in the PS3 to run audio out of the HDMI port if it is set to run audio out of the Digital Out or AV out. Also, if your going to run audio from the PS3 to the HT receiver through the Digital Out then you need to change the audio setting in the PS3 to Digital Out.
1. Select (Sound Settings) under (Settings) in the home menu. 2. Select [Audio Output Settings].
3. Select the input connector on the audio device.
Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use. AV is 2 ch. only, Digital Out is 2 ch. & 5.1 ch, and HDMI is upto 7.1.
