I had this problem on my tecra9000, also My headphone audio and laptop speakers did not work either.
re loaded drivers still the same.
I have fixed it though...The good news;
fact: if you operate the slide switch on the front of laptop and the orange LED does not illuminate then it is not software!! this function is a hardwired dc level change made via the audio PCB/flex throught to the Main PCB and on to the WiFi PCB.
the likely cause (common) is dry solder joints on the SMD long interconnecting plugs which connect the main PCB to the sister PCB, so it is a easy strip down job reflux and solder operation.
The cause of this fault IMHO is thermal cycling differentials between the two PCBs over a long period of time.. despite this a damn good little laptop though!!

Hi there.
There is a switch on the front, which you switch on and it lights up red.
Then search for wireless connection and it should find it no problem.

good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

How to create a personalize WEP Key or Password in Linksys WRT120N Wireless Router

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.

I have two computer, one desk next laptop .i can't connect to laptop, desk is connect.

To connect your computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh network list, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connect to your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Key before allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This Network Key is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is configured in the Wireless settings in the Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way to setup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrase or WPA or WPA2 key that was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router. http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_address For information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in the laptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Hi there,

It could be that the college WLAN (Wireless network) has some proxy settings. If you are from the same college you can try going to the IT support of your campus so they can configure your computer to be able to connect to the network.

In order for the wireless computer to connect to the router wirelessly, the router and the computer's wireless settings should be the same. Before trying to connect your wireless adapter to a Linksys wireless router, please know the following: SSID or Network Name, Wireless Security and/or Network Key.

I can not figure out how to get the computer to make a wireless connection.

Add the Home SSID to the Preferred Network List After you set the SSID on your home gateway, you may need to add it to your preferred network list if Windows XP Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled. (Although automatic configuration is nice to have, your IT department may have disabled it on your laptop in order to meet their needs. If they have, you'll need to use the tool provided by your laptop or wireless manufacturer to manually configure wireless settings.) To manually add your home wireless network to the list of preferred networks when Wireless Auto Configuration is enabled, follow these steps:
• In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
• Right-click the Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.
• On the Wireless Networks tab, shown in Figure 3, click Add.

Figure 3
• In the Wireless network properties dialog box, shown in Figure 4, enter the SSID you configured for your wireless gateway (ExampleHome_g in this example.)

Figure 4
Note: Figure 4 assumes you've added the Windows WPA Client Update. If you haven't downloaded and installed it, you probably should. For more on the WPA Client Update, see Overview of the WPA Wireless Security Update in Window XP.
• Fill in the rest of the fields, including the necessary authentication and encryption information based on the configuration of your wireless gateway.
• Click OK and your home network will be added to the list of preferred networks.
Now, whenever you're at home, your work laptop should automatically see your home wireless network and connect to it.
