What you might be hearing is the fan before it shuts down, the burners quit long before that. You might have a sticking fan switch thats letting the blower run to long and blowing cool air. You didnt say if your unit has a blower, I have to assume.

Fan on gas wall heater shuts off and on every 3 minutes, but the flame is on the entire time.

It always helps to add the model number of the item you want help on. However if it's like the newer units, the fan operates whenever the heater wall has reached a high enough temperature and shuts off when the heater cools off. It is not wired into your thermostat or electrically wired to the heater. It does that with a temperature driven fan switch in a little junction box mounted to the heater. Normally when that box gets hot because the heater is on the fan comes on, when it cools off the fan goes off. The junction box will have an ac cord coming out of it. If this fan switch junction box is not properly mounted it could be getting cooled off when the fan starts and then shuts itself off. After it heats up again it starts the fan. The other possibility is the temperature based fan switch is failing and needs replacement. See link.

I have a glow warm 20000 btu natural gas unvented heater. The unit is wall mounted. It won't stay on for more than 15 minutes, then shuts itself off. Its in a corner if that makes a difference... but has...

well, these heaters are typically thermostat-bound, and I have found that they simply will not burn continuously, like a blue-flame heater. Try turning up the setting--this will make it come on/off more often, effectively heating at least one med-lg room, and partially for adjoining areas. Keep in mind that these only rated for 700-1500 SF--that is NOT the floor measurements, but square feet of airspace; eg., a 10' x 15' room has 10' x 15' x 8' (8 foot ceiling) =1200 sf. That said, My 15k btu wall unit had been the sole heating source for my entire home for 5 years, until last year, when I acquired another smaller unit. However, I typically only use a few rooms, and shut off unused areas (ya, was 'cool' in unused back room areas).

it can go up but is designed to go up wall cavity and unit i supposed to sit with it's back against wall to adapt to a flu that is already there would mean you would have to sit out into room a little bit which could look funny, the only way i can think to do this and look good would be to make a false wall for flu so upou don't see it and it wouldn't have to be built to far into room only far enough to hide flu i would stringly recomend someone to come have a look at it for you as it is acchievable but to make it look half descent if not immaculate job would be to get a specialist on fluing to look for you and advise on options to get it to go to old flu outlet may be something you can do but i don't think it would be a good idea as you would have to either bring heater far enough forward to go straight up it as wood heater flu would have been a fair distance of wall for clearance's, or the other way would be to bring flu behind heater then elbow out to get over to old flu exit, so get someone to look at it for you as you want to also put into a place where it will heat efficiently too!

the first problem is you need a milli-volt t-stat and your central has a 24volt t-stat if you connect the 2 it will fry the controlls in the wall heater the second problem is t-stat location if the wall heater is near the central heats t-stat it will shut off the central to soon . maybe relocate wall unit to coldest room ?

Williams 3003622 Wall Mounted 30,000 BTU The pilot light goes out when the main flame shuts down. The pilot light will stay lit for days when heat is not called for but when heat is called for the furnace...

I'm having the same exact problem... At first we thought was the vent... but the way the flames goes out... it seems that there is "not enough oxygen" more than "blown out by the wind"... right after both main & pilot goes out, I can't even light any external flame inside the chamber... and it doesn't feel like the outside cold air coming in... it just feel like there is some sort of gas in the chamber that's so strong, it prevents flame... and the only thing I can think of is that it doesn't have enough oxygen, but too much natural gas, and flame can't sustain.

Heater doesnt stay on when the temp gets colder

Ventless heaters such as these have an oxygen depletion sensor that monitors O2 levels at the burner and shuts the unit off if it drops below a certain percentage (assuming that there will be carbon monoxide production). Check your owner's manual for any requirements such as a window or door needing to be open while this heater is in use.
There also is the possibility that there is water in the regulator of your propane line (if it is outside) that freezes and inhibits the regualtor's function.

Rinnai 1004 - Temp on thermostat reads 10 deg cooler than actual, keeps running

Behind the unit near the floor level, is a yellow wire with a black bulb at the end. This is the actual sensor for returning air. If there is cool air infiltrating the area where it is located, it will keep the unit running until the return air reaches temperature. You could also have a bad sensor but highly unlikely. Make sure there is no air infiltration influencing the sensor. Also, you can unclip the sensor and pull out a few more inches of wire to locate it higher up away from the floor. Tie it up with a wire tie.

Rinnai it testing a remote thermostat but as of yet, there is no plans to offer one.
