Hiya

you can use practically any skt 775 cpu providing the system bus speed is supported.

you may even be able to use a core2 duo but it may need the bios updating to support it

I don't have mother board cd of compaq amd athlon(tm) LE 1660.

If that is a Compaq Computer then you will need to go to the Compaq Website and enter your model number and operating system and you will see the list of available drivers for download. AMD only provides drivers for their products and you won't need drivers for the CPU so you won't need to go there. Your second best option, unless you put a different sound card in the computer than the one Compaq put in it, will be the website for the sound card manufacturer.

Check the motherboard specs to see if it supports the AM2 socket. Sound like a bad match with the CPU.

Memory upgrade on presario 4403us desktop

Hi yes thats correct you can have only 512mb RAM. This is due to your motherboard limitations or bios limitations. The only way is to change the motherboard this will allow you to also have latest usb 2 support. Just buy a motherboardboard thats compatible with your processor and existing memory.

Armada 1700 upgrade

hello
No you cant upgrade your processor.
also to change processor is very complicated in a old compaq.
and if you should manage to find a faster processor to your old compaq it not gonna make your laptop faster. the mother board and ram memory are still to old.

Upgrading my processor without changing my motherboard

A pentium 3 processor is probably in a Socket 370 socket.

None of the current processors would fit in this socket, so you would want to look at second-hand computer stores / markets or maybe in your local classifieds.

It might be worth checking what speed processors your motherboard can support up too before buying one.

Compaq presario S R 1103 W M

what does it have currently? i know that motherboard can handle a 478 pin pentium 4 chips. they can be either willamette or northwood processors. i believe they made those lines up to at least 2.8 ghz. just go to newegg.com and look up pentium 4 and either northwood or willamette and you should find something you like.

if you need help installing, here is a helpful site provided by hp.
