Question about KitchenAid 31 in. KGCC505 Gas Cooktop
I have a Kichenaid (Whirlpool) thermal-convection freestanding gas range model KGST307GBS0. The spark igniters on the surface burners just started sparking continuously, regardless of whether the burners are turned on or not. I can light none, one, all, or any combination of the burners but the igniters keep firing. I thought that perhaps something had gotten wet during cleaning and left all four burners on for about 10 minutes but to no avail; the igniters kept sparking. We also tried baking something for about 90 minutes or so but the igniters just continued to fire (fortunately, I was in another room or I think I might have gone bonkers). I turned of the circuit breaker for several hours to stop the incessant clicking but it just started up again once power was restored. I am assuming the igniter module (found in the parts list of the chasis diagram) is bad but hesitate to spend $100+ if there is another option. Any ides??? Our two year old gas cooktop just started doing the same thing, continually firing. Happened just after my wife finished a vigorous cleaning of the cooktop, so I am suspecting that the wires got wet and are just grounding out. I have unplugged it and will let it dry overnight and report back.
When cleaning, if the control switches get damp, they will react as you describe.
Unplug the appliance, use a hair dryer and attempt to dry the switches.
Leave it unplugged overnight and try them again tomorrow.
They will eventually dry and be OK.
