Replace your bake element.
If you look closely, you will see it has blown out.

No problem with hotpoint electric range til I went to start oven, breaker kept tripping & making a popping noise

From having a Hotpoint myself, I can think of 2 possibilities.
Obvious answer would be electrical problem. If it trips the breaker you probably have a loose wire or a bad plugin socket. Did you buy a new "pigtail" plugin socket or did you use an old one when you got the stove? They say to buy a new one each time. If this is your first problem with this then your circuit can probably handle the load but see if the circuit that tripped says 30 or 40 amps. Also check to see if anything else is on that circuit besides your stove. There shouldn't be anything else on circuit. You may even have a bad circuit breaker but that seems less likely.

Second possibility is a bad baking element at the bottom of stove or bad heating element on top. When mine went bad, it made loud popping noises and sparks were flying. After that, the rest of the stove worked but not the baking element. I had to replace it for about $50.

My bet is on a loose wire. Be careful and unplug everything before you check! See if it's not fully plugged into the socket and see if the 3 or 4 wires coming from the thick plug wire are all tightly connected to your stove.

Loud pop from Range, stove top still works

The pop was a shorted wire.
The short drew sudden over-amp at breaker.
Amps = heat.
Breaker senses heat and trips before wire to oven is damaged, and before the arcing short can cause a fire.
Was the short at the element?
I don't know, but sounds like the circuit board was damaged.
Of course they are putting electronics inside all appliances today instead of old mechanical dial, because it's cheaper or so much prettier... but new appliances more vulnerable to surge, and other electrical failures. Which is true for all 240V appliances not protected by whole house surge protector.
To test element.
Remove element.
Use a continuity tester across the element connections.
If there is continuity, then the element is probably functional.
Use a multimeter across same element, set multimeter to read ohms.
240 Volt, 3500 watt element should be about 16 ohms.
4500 watt about 12-13 ohms
Volts squared divided by watts = ohms
57,600 divided by 4500 watt = 12.8 ohms

I would guess that the short fried the circuit board, but there is a also a shorted wire somewhere that is still bare and dangerous while power is ON and you are touching oven or stove, unless 240V breaker is GFCI or arc fault, which probably not. Especially dangerous if you are moving stuff around trying to find problem while power is ON.

Stove top and oven doesn't work.

If it is an electric stove it may have tripped one side of the 230 line. Check the house cuircuit breaker panel and find the stove circuit breaker. It will be tied together by a bar or clip. Shut off both breakers completly and reset them back completely. If it is a power problem this should reset the stove.

My stove poped and went off. I tripped the breaker and now the oven will not heat. Neither the top or bottom unit.

First I would look at the heating element in the oven and make sure it is all in one piece. there are usually one on the bottom and one on top. sometimes they will burn apart and short out to stove. if they look ok then do a quick check, I would turn off all knob on the stove top and oven. then try to reset the breaker. hopefully it resets ok. then turn on one at a time and see which burner or oven element has a short. when you find the bad burner or stove element it will trip the breaker again.
hope this helps

Not coming on, heard a loud pop, all of the stove went out. Hit the breaker and only the stove top came on. No oven, broil or any of the clock or oven controls work.

the elements probably fried. thats what caused the breaker to trip. you can have them tested. and replace them then everything should be fine. best of luck.

Oven went out with a pop

Did someone bump the self-cleaning lock lever? If you have one, make sure it is all the way over to the right. Try resetting the unit by tripping the breaker. Leave it off for 30 secs min and turn it back on. See if that works. If not, let us know and we'll help you further.

Stove cutoff after loud popping sound

The element burnt in to and arced which is the loud noice you heard red flash of light. It probably tripped the breaker at the electrical panel. Don't turn it back on until someone checks the element and replaces it.

Frigidaire Range control panel DEAD

We tested the EOC and it will indeed need a replacement. Also, just a couple weeks prior we ran the "clean" mode on the oven as did another poster who experienced the "pop" and loss of the control board/oven function, but still had stove top function.
