Question about Electronics - Others

Yamaha AW16G Hi, I have owned a Yamaha AW16g Multitrack for some years but recently have encountered a seemingly fatal error. Upon turning the unit on, the display reads, "RECORDER RUNNING", And wont let me perform any functions at all. I have spoken to Yamaha who told me that there was an error with the hard drive and to format it but the unit wont even let me format the disk!! I was wondering if you dealt with repairs on such a unit as this and if the problem can be rectified. Any help or advice you can give would be much apeeciated. Many Thanks. I can not import tracks from CD. I tried different cds, different speed and files... nothing. It just says ?Importing? but nothing happens.

Maybe you could pull the hard drive out and mount it inside a computer, and format it that way.

SOURCE: tascam 488 mk II recording problems

Have you taken a look at the edge of the tape? tracks 1 and 2 on a cassette are usually next to the edge and you may have a bad batch of tapes that have the edge damaged. Another possible but not a likley problem might be the tape is out of spec. for the width, and your heads MAY have a little wear from use, and are trying to act like tape guides. If the tape is slightly wider than the grove worn in the head, the tape would be lifted at the edge and not make contact to the head. It is not electronic as you have diagnosed this with other tapes. Give it a try and see!

Maybe you could remove the hard drive and install it in a computer or laptop and then use the computer to format the hard drive.
But this would totally erase the hdd and then you would have to re-install the operating system.
I believe the recovery disk that comes with the unit would re-install the OS, but I'm not sure.
Maybe contact Yamaha and ask them if this method would work.
I hope this helps you.

Product - YAMAHA AW16G Digital Workstation Two problems: 1) The record button broke (the plastic tabs that hold it in place). The record function still works, but I need to have the actual button...

Unless you are a electronics expert or a pediatric surgeon, I don't think you can attempt to fix the button yourself. And more over these buttons are not available as spares. New company policies are use and throw. Even life has become disposable today !!

Yamaha dvd s-80 showing error code H01 when trying to play disc. What does this mean ?

The manual isn't much help, is it?

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Yamaha-DVD-S80-DVD-Players-manual/id/320ag210/t/2/

It seems the "H01" is some kind of common and fatal error code in many disc players and I have yet to find anyone who has paid the ransom, er cost, to get one fixed as it is cheaper and makes more economical sense to just buy a new unit...

Replace it is the answer. Search for suitable replacement at Digikey.com OR go to Yamaha America and ask for parts and order a replacement jack. It will require opening the unit ad soldering. If you are not competent electronically, best take it to a shop for repair.
