Hp printer disappears

Hello, I have Vista program and a new HP Deskjet f4100/4180 all in one printer. My problem is the printer keeps disappearing and won't print. Then I have to unistall the whole program and reinstall it. It does this about every 3-4 months like clockwork. Now it takes about 2 - 2 1/2 hours to fix this. This is driving me crazy, literally. HP says it's a Vista problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. I have an HP Deskjet F4140 connected to my computer with Vista and it will reinstall itself every time you turn it or the computer off and on. Sometimes I can print and then, without turning the power off to the printer or computer, I can come back a few minutes or hours later and the stupid thing has just disappeared! It does this AT LEAST once a week and HP has been absolutely no help at all. It was installed exactly according to the directions HP gave me and still it doesn't work. I am considering taking it out and running it over with the car so please help me someone!!!!!!

Have had the same problem. Contacted HP by email and they sent me am email response about running MSCONFIG which did cure the problem. Their instructions were very easy to follow, even for a 70+ years computer novice

HP Printer Continually Drops Off Vista OS

Click on Start -> All Programs -> HP -> HP Update and run this utility. Last month, HP released an update that directly addresses this issue with the PhotoSmart series printers and computers using Vista. You should install any updates listed here, including the connectivity update.

Windows keeps re-installing HP Photosmart C4280

I have a customer with Windows XP and the same issue. Told him to unplug the printer cable when starting the computer and/or restarting it. Wait until all auto-start programs have loaded, including and specifically the HP Monitoring Utility program. Once Windows is up and he's at the desktop, THEN plug the printer cable into the computer. He's been doing that for several days now with no duplicate printers installed.

No HP Director

I had this same problem when switching to our new pc and still running xp. I was told that the new pc was installed with the new version of the program and had to uninstall the new version and load the old from the cd in order to use the programs I was framiliar with. Check with HP tech support and have them help you through the uninstall.
