Cannot pick up sata hdd

Have a VIA K8M800 motherboard and i want to install a 500gb sata hdd. i have tested the cable and nothing is wrong with that. have changed the bios battery and nothing. when i go into bios i can only get the system to start with the drive set to raid. but other than that bios does not pick the drive up and doesnt even say that i have empty sata ports. neither BIOS or WinXP pick the HDD up. very iritating as i am doing this for a friend and hes replacement machine is some what... dated so i need to get this working ASAP

Hi there
VIA K8M800 is an AMD platform motherboard and should pick up the sata drive. Connect the drive to the motheboard, make sure that both leads are connected, go into the bios and set the bios to default settings, hit F10, save and exit, the machine will restart, go back into the bios and check to make sure its been picked up by the system.
post back if you need any more help

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

How Do I exactly make a 500gb sata hdd work with this p4m266a ndmx motherboard? It doesn't appear to have a sata port and using the sata compatible cable did not help. Thanks

Hello,

if your motherboard does not have SATA, purchase a SATA - PCI card, they cost something to the direction of 10 to 20 $ and give you 2 to 4 or more SATA ports.

Switching from 40GB IDE HDD to 500GB SATA HDD. SATA won't boot.

Hi there
No there is no need to change any jumpers on a sata drive, go into the bios settings and tell the bios to boot from the western digital drive only.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!!

Sata drivers

Had that problem myself today and got it somewhat resolved. You need to install storage controllers on your system. These can be found on the CD provided woth your motherboard or the manufacturer's website.

I cant install my hdd sata

Under many cases, the default settings for additional onboard SATA/RAID controller could have been set to [Disabled] when delivered. This will cause the controller to stop its function completely. Suggestion: Please refer to your user’s manual for detailed description on how to enable onboard SATA/RAID controller via adjusting jumper or BIOS settings. Clean SATA cable with a couple cotton sticks lightly dipped into alcohol. If you sitll can not see the SATA drive from within the bios your onboard SATA/RAID controller is defective. Contact Asus tech M-F eastern time at: 812-282-2787. Tech will assign you a case number. Tech will than connect you to the RMA department for replacment/repair.
