Question about Graphics Cards

1 Answer

GeForce FX 5500 compatability

Is the GeForce FX5500 compatable with an AGP 2x motherboard?

If not, what is the next best card that would work with AGP 2X?

    Thanks for that Badgermonkey.

I'll look into those other cards, but I'm not entirely sure if the system will handle anything much more advanced than the 5500.

(It's for a secondary machine that has been up dated but the original graphics card is no longer supported by the manufacturer and the original driver is not recognised by windows xp)

    Cheers, stickpoo1

The FX5500 is a poor-quality videocard - if you're trying to buy one look for a 6800GT or GTX - at the very least a 5800 or 5900. They should work in 4x or 2x and Starcraft and Diablo will play great!

Their is no direct drivers for that compatibility. your best bet is to try using ForceWare Release 95. This works most of the time, so hopefully this will work for you!

There is no such thing, the FX5500 video chip doesn't meets the minimum characteristics needed to be compatible with Vista and 7: it needs to be at least Dx9.2 compatible and it's just Dx8.0 capable.

No, it won't. HP's specifications page for the motherboard show it has a PCI-E slot for a video card, and the FX5500 is an AGP card. The connectors are different and you won't be able to install it. You'll need to shop for a PCI-E video card.

Will it work with Agpx4 motherboard ?

Hi,

After looking at the motherboard and video card you specified,

Agpx4 Ga-7zx-h Motherboard
GeForce FX 5500 Video Card

The video card requires a AGP 8x slot and the motherboard only supports a AGP 4x.

Nvida geforce fx5500 256 agp compatible with intel d865gbf ?

Yes, they should be compatible. The Intel d865gbf has an AGP port that supports AGP 4x/8x, and so does the FX5500. You should be fine.

assuming you have set your agp slot in the cmos settings to the primary graphics controller and already had the agp graphics slot driver installed for the motherboard, try using a driver from the nvidia web site if you are having trouble with the driver that came on the cd. Use the VGA onboard graphics if you have any or fit your old card and click on the link below for XP Drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html If you still have problems then you will have to try an ATI graphics card as it just may not be compatable with your make of motherboard
