Kohler Rialto toilet model K3402BP
Manufactured 1989
I have replaced the flap valve numerous times with a 'Kohler' or generic flap valve. I have cleaned the flap valve seat to make sure it is smooth. I can effect a seal if I push down on the flap valve. I have added some weight to the valve to help it to seat and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I understand this is a common problem with this model. Kohler has suggested a kit for $126.00 to replace all the parts, but they don't have any because the manufacturer has gone out of business, or a new more water efficient toilet. Either option is considerable expense as I have two of these with the same problem. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you
Peter

The bottom of the flap is not catching.
Thanks for your help.
Guys I have the same frustrating problem witht the Kohler hinge flap. Whenever you flushed the flapper pulled to the left and wasn't completed seated. I bought a couple of different flappers (thinking there was a defect) and then started to research the problem a bit. However I figured out that I didn't have the flapper snapped into the ridged place holders in the back. You have to pull forward very hard and make sure that the rubber hinge is seated in the ridge. Once I did that, the flapper no longer pulled to the left when flushed. There are different heights of ridges. I snapped mine at the third ridge from the bottom. Hope this helps.
is the bottom of the flap catching when it is closing?
