The only thing that I can see that would cause that is a broken freezer door light switch and possibly the power going through the adaptive defrost. Broken or fused to cause the power to come on when the door is closed...Click Here=> FRS26R4A I blieve i can help you with this if you are willing to work and communicate with me, Thanks Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Bought a Thor Fridge Freezer just over 10 months ago.

Last night put a bowl of water in the freezer section and turned the dial all the way to the right, Bowl is frozen over this morning so I am getting a themometer today and will set it at what other freezer makers recommend and see how it works then. I will try the water trick again and see how well it works.

Freezer motor not restarting after it switches off.

Hello Rostakes;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

When you unplug your unit, then plug it back in you are giving the motor a surge charge with more volts than necessary to run the motor.
A bad evaporator motor will hum. The clicking sound that you hear is the motor fan blade striking something.

You need to check for 2 possible causes:

1.) The back cover in your freezer, that is in front of the evaporator motor and fan is very thin sheet metal and will easily flex. Inspect to ensure that you are not over packing your freezer and pushing against the back cover.

2.) It is common for the evaporator motor fan blade to have interference from icing. Inspect the back cover in front of the evaporator fan for frost and ice. Your freezer goes through a defrost cycle where the unit shuts approximately every 8-10 hours, the defrost heater turns on for about 20 minutes, the unit restarts. This is where they get the term; "Frost Free". If you have frost or ice on the back wall your defrost heater and Bi-Metl need to be replaced.

Due to the limited size of response by the site I can not walk you through the repair procedure for these parts. If necessary submit this repair procedure request to this web site.

Fridge and freezer stopped working but fridge light still on should the orange switch by the light be on or off don't know if that is the defrost button

Sounds like a motherboard or defrost control board. Can you tell me the model number found inside the fresh food compartment or around fresh food section door frame, Without the model number it is hard to guess what the switch is that you are asking about, Thanks Sea Breeze

MAYTAG MBR2256KES Is a defrost timer the same as a defrost thermostat? My freezer is coated in heavy frost and my fridge won't get below 55 degrees. Thanks

with the model number you sent you don't have a timer you have a jazz board in your machine,it's a computer board located behind the touch pad where you set the temps in the fridge section and the timer isn't the same as the defrost thermostat.let me ask you this is the frost on the back inside wall of the freezer or on the ceiling and frozen water droplets on the packages,a common problem with bottom mount freezers is the door gets left open mostly from a food package in the way,you push the door in,it hits the package,it feels like the door closed but it's open and warm air gets in and freezes up the air ducts.if it's on the back wall you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, defrost heater or computer board.if it's a defrost problem remove the bottom kickplate and look for the tech sheet,it will tell you how to put the machine into defrost,i think you open the door, hold in the lite switch, press the down arrow three times on the fridge setting, let go of the lite switch, press down again and you'll see an s,prees down again and you're in defrost, shut the door, but check that on the tech sheet, listen in the freezer, the fan shouls shut down and if it did go into defrost you'll hear a crackling sound,if the compressor is still running most likely the board is bad,,i can help you out if it's a defrost problem but first let me know if it looks like the door was left open or the inside back panel is covered with like snow or frost.

My refrigerator side is not cooling well. I see ice behind the fan unit when I take out the veggie drawers at bottom. Also fan on fridge side is making lots of noise. Noise stops when I open the door and...

.When you open the door freezer door will get stopped and so, no sound. It will work only when door is closed. Fan sound comes due to malfunction of defrost. If defrost does in right time it won't happens. Unplug and let fridge get defrost all icing. After 3 to 4 hrs, start run again, and set temp @ 5degree freezer. It will start cooling fridge compartment also. But, this is a temerory solution. To solve permanently, find out why defrost not functioned properly?
Follow this steps.
Check defrost timer working which is back of the refrigerator down corner. By with small tip screw driver in some models located in the ceiling of the fresh foodsection or behind the cold control cover. In the defrost timer, slowly turn the screw like wheel in the middle of the defrost timer withstraight screwdriver until the fridge shuts off. Now it's in defrost. If thedefrost heater(s) starts, replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. Ifthe heater(s) does not start, unplug wire cord to check ohm test for continuityof heater. If continuity is there, plug cord wire which gives power 120volts(check specification) to heater. If heater no starts, bypass defrost thermostatby join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. If the heater now comes on,replace the defrost timer and defrost thermostat. If the heater itself is bad, replace it. Thanks and hope helpful.

KENMORE MODEL 596 BOTTOM FREEZER, FRIDGE NOT COOLING

The freezer will stay cold because a small amount of cold air will be forced through the frost but that will not be enough to make it up to the refrigerator portion. You can defrost the unit by removing the metal panel and allowing the frost to melt. Careful use of a hairdryer can speed up this process. This will likely be a temporary fix. The root cause of excessive frost can be caused by a bad door seal or a defective defrost circuit.

First check that the door seal is good by closing the door on a dollar bill at several points around the door, both on the freezer and refidgerator door. If you can pull the bill out with no resistance, the door is not making a good seal. Inspect the seal and make sure there isn't anything stopping the door from closing such as food, or a shelf not pushed in all the way.

If the door seal is good, the defrost system is likely defective. The defrost system has three main parts, the defrost heater, thermostat, and timer. None of these parts are particularly expensive, or difficult to replace you feel comfortable with repairing it yourself. If you can troubleshoot this by manually starting the defrost cycle. Let me know if you would like this procedure.

Fridge is warm, freezer works.

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
